^ The last part of your post just articulated the beauty of the free market :D.

ok, i have silly question to ask. Your answer could very well cement my BIGGEST REGRET to my app:

DO WE NEED TO HAVE A TITLE FOR OUR ESSAY? cos I thought it was supposed to be a Transfer statement with specific prompts? I am freakin’ out right now.

nope. many of my friends in the unis i want to xfer into didn’t bother with titles. i’m pretty sure the same applies for transfer essays. titles are nice, but definitely not necessary. i did not title most of my essays last year or this year for my apps. so don’t worry.

lol true that, heres to new transfer book. that was really an amazing idea.

Does college confidential publish books? like the company?

I don’t think so. I am pretty sure it’s just a discussion site–and a very useful one at that

jemapelle - I am transferring from the University of Sheffield in the UK. I’m NY born and raised, just was determined to go to college in England, though it worked out to be WAY more than I could possibly afford.
How about you? I have no idea how the transferring of my credits will work. Did you provide alot of info about your grading system?

vanwilder - Did you explain somewhere in the app why you’re taking the semester off? I think my reasons pretty legit, but regardless I still feel like it may be looked down upon, or they may expect more from our apps.
Let’s hope not!

Yup, I explained in my additional info part. I’m also taking classes at my local community college in my semester off, and working; so I included that so they wouldn’t think I was just sitting on my ass (though I’m doing that too…hm.)

thanks melonbread, it’s just that I read about someone’s title being silly and I was like, “wha??” I knew we should have a title on the Freshman app if we’d chosen the “write whatever you want” question. But I don’t remember needing a title for Transfer. Thanks anyway!

@cynthiahxp- I attended an American uni that is based here in my country, and the school is an accredited US college. The schools I applied to have confirmed that all my credits will transfer. Columbia has a site that lists all the universities with a similar and/or acceptable credit system. I don’t know which schools you are applying to, but I am sure Columbia would be quite a ‘reliable’ gauge.

I am currently not in school for Spring either. But I didn’t exactly explain why. I only listed the activities that I am involved in since last enrolled i.e. Teaching at an elementary sch, volunteering as drama coach at YMCA (on weekends), private tutoring, and interning for an events company. So I hope it shows that I’ve been keeping myself busy. But I do worry if they expect us to explain more… now I feel like I should email them an addendum or sthg…the deadlines have not passed…

@jamapelle
Thank Goodness!!! Your post scared me jamapelle because none of my essays have titles!!!
And ummm… maybe you should send them the information. But then if the colleges have questions wouldn’t they ask you themselves?

lol Maelstrom16, I didn’t mean to!

Whoever was interested in the transfer book project. Start keeping an account of your experiences. If you are interested we should add each other on here so we can keep in good contact. Anyone want to suggest the next step? I suppose we can make a list of the schools that each of us applied to or something like that. / :

So have you given titles to most of your essays?? Cos most of the supplement essays came with their own prompt and I had enough difficulty cutting them down to the word limit.

Personally, I didn’t title a single essay. I’m honestly not worried about that. If some place rejects me for not titling an essay, when I got all 1001 pieces of paper to them that they request, I don’t think I want to go there in the first place. Really, I don’t think it’s that big of a deal.

And as far as the book, I think the next step would be to outline. What are the major steps in transferring? 1. Deciding to transfer 2. Choosing colleges 3. Finding out requirements 4. Essays 5. Extracurriculars 6. Recommendations 7. The vile “College Official’s Report” Form (if Common App) 8. High School Info 9. Standardized Tests 10. The Wait 11. What to do when you hear back.

Additions and/or revisions?

Personally one important part of this is to deal with being in the current college. There should be one big chapter on that!!!

That sounds like a great idea linala27.

@Vegas27 I think we must first establish the ones who would like to join this ‘project’. Like an official petition? Who knows, maybe some of us are just raising our hands at this point, and eventually forget or change their minds about this, if I may say so, ingenious plan. Do you mind being in charge of collecting names and emails, since you first came up with the idea? We could PM you our REAL names and emails and you can post up the compiled names here. I’d be happy to help out if you’re busy.

Come May 1st, when we’ve gotten our decisions, we can then confirm if we’d like to contribute. AS for now, I agree that we should keep an account of our experiences to avoid any head-scratching in the future.

@ Maelstrom16 I didn’t add titles, there’s no need (now that you guys have cleared that up for me!)

Also, I’ve emailed the schools about adding an addendum, explaining to them that it’s germane to my application etc. Hopefully they’ll accept it :)

I’m so ready for this ‘book’. hahaha!!
It’s gonna be a best seller!

I go with what jamapelle says. Come May and when decisions are out, and if I pull this off I am definitely in. If not, then maybe I can contribute to a chapter on how to cope up if it doesn’t work out :)

@Linala27 Excellent outline I think that is a good place to start. I think a good starting chapter or introduction could be for high school students who did not do so well their senior year. It should highlight the benefits of attending a CC for their gen-eds etc. Especially with the economic situation, students and parents alike should embrace $80 a credit vs. $800 or more. ( :

Also, we could write the book as a collection of separate experiences. By that I mean the book will still be divided as Linalas outline suggests, however, it will be further divided in regards to each of us. I mean that the book can be divided with each person having a chapter, which is then further divided by the outline or some form thereof- that Linala27 posted. If we agree with a particular outline then we can build our chapters as mini-texts for lack of a better word. The fixed outline will allow for homeostasis in the final result without much effort.
Hopefully that doesnt sound too crazy haha. ( :

Next, I suppose if everyone interested would send me their email I can compile a contacts list that I can forward to each of you. Then we can keep in better contact through the process. This is exciting guys! If we succeed we will have resume gold! Haha and will be helping future college students. ( :

Compile a contact list of interested contributers!

Come up with a definitive outline that we all agree to follow.
