Hi, I know many people ask this question, but I still want to hear your opinion on each of the residence halls. I’m debating on which residence hall to put as my second choice. I’m choosing Pollock as my first choice because I’ve heard that there are some freshman there and it’s not as wild as east. I’m not really talkative but I’m open to meeting new people. Please share your comments on any of the residence halls?
Thanks so much!!
Pollock is definitely a good compromise between partying and being able to sleep. It’s East’s less crazy cousin, I’ve heard. I eat a lot of my meals at Pollock.
West is pretty good as well; the commons there has great food. The only room I have seen in West felt a little cramped but I think it was just a result of how much STUFF my friend and his roommate had brought, haha.
North is supposedly much quieter. I believe they have some suites up there. Mostly upperclassmen and art students.
I live in South, home to the honors college and the sororities. I like it a lot because honors housing is quiet and in a great location. You don’t have to be in Schreyer to live in honors housing. If you want more of a “typical” freshman experience you might not like it, though. My roommate, who had previously been rooming with an RA in East, hates how quiet it is.
@bodangles. Do all of the beds in pollock make an “L” shape, and does pollock have small double rooms? Are the rooms in South more expensive since they’re honors housing?
The floor plans (which I assume are what you’re looking at) look like that arrangement is common in Pollock, but I’ve never been inside a Pollock room.
Honors housing does not cost more if you choose “traditional double,” not renovated. Renovated and singles cost more.
My son is in Mifflin Hall in Pollack. The beds are in a “L” shape. I don’t see how they could configure another arrangement in that room. Any other arrangment would take up floor space. The bolsters are attached to the wall which pretty much defines the bed location. Very tight fit between the beds.
On a side note: The bed closest to the door was put on risers to get more space under the bed for storage. The risers he bought are slightly tapered. Every time they open the door, the door hits the risers. Frustrating! Buy straight risers if you decide on risers.
My daughter originally wanted Pollack and liked the dining hall there better, but she is not a fan of the “L” shaped configuration. We’ve seen both East and Pollack rooms. She will most likely live in East Even though it’s further away And has its crazy reputation. Time will tell if that’s the best decision!
