For those of you with first hand knowledge, could you tell me about the major advantages of Stevens Institute of Technology? I am not looking for comparisons with other schools or long lists of gripes. I am essentially asking a question similar to what an applicant might be asked - Why SIT?

Of course the title should say "are" and not "at."

Hi, I’m going to be a sophomore at Stevens in the Fall studying Computer Engineering. What I can tell you about Stevens that makes it stand out from the others is that Stevens Institute of Technology offers a B.E (Bachelor’s of Engineering) degree instead of B.S (Bachelor’s of Science). What that means is Stevens offers a broad learning experience within the Engineering department with engineering design courses. Only a handful of schools in the country offer a B.E degree. Another strength Stevens posses is its Office of Career Development Ranked #14 in the Nation by The Princeton Review in 2010. I know many friends that chose Stevens just for its high job placement rate. Stevens has also been ranked in the top 20 universities for ROI (Return on investment) for students. Overall Stevens is a great school. A friendly environment full of brilliant and innovative people. Hope this helps :)

Thank you. That is exactly what I was looking for you brilliant and innovative student!

What about location? Isn’t that important to many of the students who apply to SIT?

The location is excellent, just across the Hudson river from NYC, Stevens is located in the wonderful city Hoboken. Hoboken is such a lively place with a wide selection of restaurants and shops. Hoboken has been ranked the 12th best college town in the nation by The Princeton Review, 2010-11. When students get tired of Hoboken (which is rarely) it only takes a 15 min train ride straight NYC where Stevens students like to enjoy their weekends.

What about these comments on SIT’s website:

"Alumni & Success

Stevens students have a history of gaining great success upon graduation.

A Virginia Military Institute survey based on Standard & Poor’s and The National Center for Education Statistics ranks Stevens 11th among the top 550 colleges that have produced presidents, vice presidents, and directors of U.S. companies, in proportion to their number of graduates.
Stevens graduates have extraordinary success passing the rigorous New Jersey Engineer-in-Training Exam (EIT), the first step toward professional registration.
Further evidence of Stevens’ success is the overwhelmingly high acceptance rate, 90 percent, for graduates who apply to medical schools, compared to the national rate of only 50 percent.
The percentage of Stevens undergraduate engineering alumni who go on to earn their Ph.D. ranks third among technology institutions in the U.S."
