I’m wondering what awards or contests I can apply for (like the NHS, etc.) to make my college application more solid. I currently have a 3.2 because of this year (sophomore) due to losing a parent last year…the grief part of it is finally hitting me. That and I’m having trouble maintaining my home life, friends, and school all at once. But anyways, I’m interested in going into STEM based career(veterinarian, anesthesiologist/assistant, or forensic scientist/CSI) or possibly law. And I LOVE writing and painting. As well as conservation.
Are there any contests/awards you guys know of that would look really good to colleges? I really hope to get my grades up by the finals so pray for me.
Firstly, sorry for your loss. Before you start doing contests and stuff, I would highly suggest you work on balancing school/life and getting good grades. You don’t want to add more stuff to do if you can’t handle what you’re already going through. If you’re interested in science you could see if you can do research with a professor or join something like science olympiad. In terms of writing and painting, I would suggest the Scholastic Arts & Writing Awards. I did it this year for writing and it’s pretty easy to enter.
Seconding Scholastic (http://www.artandwriting.org/). Very good experience when I did it. If you move on from regional to national level and win there, you get invited to NYC for the awards ceremony!
