What being waitlisted really means

So, I have been waitlisted for the Fall of 2015. I think this has a lot to do with the fact that I did not interview and completely missed the boat on that because I only started to show interest in December. However, Wake Forest has become my top choice. I live in CT, so what I’m wondering is if traveling to Wake during my spring break to interview is really worth it. The admission stats from the waitlist are confusing. The letter claims that historically they have accepted an average of 20% off the waitlist, but I found this article from last year where they say that they did not take anyone. http://fromtheforest.admissions.wfu.edu/2014/07/we-have-released-our-active-wait-list/
I have been accepted to Villanova and that would be my second choice, any insight or advice is greatly appreciated
ACT:30
GPA: uw 3.79, w4.29
great ECs and recommendations and challenging work load.

read the letter wrong, they don’t interview waitlist students, but still same concept. Do I visit?

I would say no, let it go as it’s an unneeded expense. Write them a letter expressing how much you want to go there. Then move on and try to love Villanova.

Also, keep them updated of everything that could help your application…summer job, even.

According to the common data set (or whatever it’s called), lots of schools wait list 1,000s of kids but only end up taking between 0 and 100 off the list. My son’s been wait listed at a few schools, including Wake. And he has like 5 friends who were all wait listed at Vandy. Seems like tons of people have been wait listed this year all over the place.

thanks for all of your guy’s help.
@JJDad3 Based on some research I’ve done, it seems as though most schools have had a record number of applicants(perhaps due in part to the economic upturn), which is why I think most schools seem to have placed more students than usually to their waitlist. That way they can keep their admissions acceptance rate in their average(lower) range and still have well qualified applicants willing to. I have also read that Wake took a record number of students during ed(nearly half the class)this year. Considering that and the fact that they took no one from the wait list last year and had a high number of applicants this year, I don’t think they will take anyone off the waitlist again this year.

Since, I received very good money from villanova, (and because I just this entire process to be over,) I am happy to say that I am committing to villanova 100%. I knew that once I decided where I was going(no matter how prestigious the school may be) that I would be able to start getting excited about the prospect of college in general.

I don’t think WF’s yield is that high so you probably have a chance!

Has anyone been contacted to get off the wait list yet?

They’re most likely going to be calling out (if they decide to) after May 1 so they know exactly how many spots available

WFU admissions is currently accepting wait listed students! good luck! I’m praying :slight_smile:

Got the call from Wake. 24 hours to make a decision…

Friend got a call today as well! Good Luck!

How do you think they go through reviewing the waitlists?
Do they consider all of them in a region then make the decision or make them as they go along?
Do they make decisions based on what they’re missing such as gender or location?

so jealous…i would give ANYTHING to get that call. I want to go to wake so badly :frowning: it feels hopeless. any tips?

@password221
What I did was send my regional dean a letter of interest and have my counselor follow up with an e-mail saying that I would commit if accepted off the waitlist. Also try to send in your updated grades C:

@MOgus1997
thanks yeah i did that too! i didnt have my guidance counselor contact though. Annoyingly I dont end school until late June so my guidance counselor cannot send in my MP4 or final grades until then, which is kind of a disadvantage because basically the rest of the country ends school in the coming week or so (i did send in my MP3 grades though). Im not sure if there is anything else to do but wait. Best of luck!

Do you require financial aid to attend WF? That might be a factor when they start choosing students…sad but true :frowning:

@collegeadvice2
I did request financial aid but from all my other schools i’ve only been granted small federal loans–no school assistance. so i dont think it will really affect me?

Anyone else been accepted yet?

Does anyone know how many spots they are offering? I pray everyday for the call!
