What books will prepare me for college?

Does anyone know of a great book on how to succeed in college? I'm looking for an invaluable source that can teach one how to study, write papers, take notes, "cheat the system", GPA, everything.

If you have more than one suggestion I'd be more than happpy to hear it.

Thanks a lot, in advance.

I wish it was that easy. Unfortunately you learn through screwing up as I have to some degree my first year.

What book will teach me the meaning of life? I hear it's in the fiction section...

purpose driven life. brave new world.

laserprecision: Im thinking hitch hikers guide to the galaxy...

Reading Webster's dictionary. A warning: DON'T PANIC!

Speaking of sci-fi, has anyone read Issac Assimov's books? They kinda suck. Even though he's all prolific, hundreds of his books have mechanical characters with all the plot developed very slowly and usually in dialogues. The books are also very dated and the guy usually gives all his roles to men (or robots), with no women. If the guy had wrote like 5-10 good, polished books I'd respect him more.

the communist manifesto, harry potter, on the road by jack kerouac (sp?), nickel and dimed.

communist manifesto is over-rated. i don't think marx knew what he was talking about...trying to sound intellectual: pshhhh! i hate social theories. they bore me to death. especially veblan and bellamy..

charizard: I've read Assimov I thought they were good, not the best but I still thought they were good books

There is a book I recommend every college student read. Its called What Smart Students Know by Adam Robinson, written by one of the founders of the test prep service Princeton Review. I have never seen a better explanation of the steps you need to follow to really learn the material for all types of classes (sciences, liberal arts, etc), and if you've learned it well you will have little trouble with grades. The book isn't magic, it isn't going to teach you how to get A's with 20 minutes studying a nite. You still need to work hard, but you'll know the work you're doing is being done effectively.

Really, which books did you read? To be honest I've never finished one of his books (I always get part-way, sometimes even half-way through before I find that I can take no more of the implausibility

...and out in my L-vin' room there arose such a clatter, that I spring from my chair to see what was the matter. Away to my tv I flew like a flash, threw up the controls and smashed out of the past.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the luster of mid-day to [glowing] objects below.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a black-suited man, and eight tiny fighters.

With a little old wookie, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be Sir Luke.
More rapid than eagles his squadren they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name...

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each little foot.
As I drew in my hand, and was turning around,
Down the chimney Luke Skywalker came with a bound.

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And took all of the novels; then turned with a jerk,
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose;

He sprang to his fighter, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight,

"REMOVED A BAD STASH,
AND TO ISSAC
GOOD-NIGHT."
