All over the UC application it says "mention anything that involves leadership". Well I really don't have anything that fits into this.. and I'm applying for 2015 fall. What can I do that gives me something to list as "leadership"?

What are your ECs? What are your hobbies? Have you ever founded anything or done an EC where you supervised younger kids?

Leadership can be leadership by example – one of my kids was the top performer on her quiz bowl team. She recruited a lot of friend to join the team over the years, too. On her Robotics team, she volunteered for tasks no one else wanted to do so the team would succeed. These are all types of leadership that don’t involve the title of ‘captain’. Working them into the application can be challenging… she had one college that asked specifically for a short essay on this, and she used these examples. She made the point that one can be a quiet leader, and that leadership isn’t necessarily about titles or standing in front of a group. Maybe this will give you some ideas.

Join a club and get a position. Obviously, join a club that is relevant to your other accomplishments and interests. You could also create a nonprofit or company - that shows leadership!

@swimmygirl123 would creating a small club count? I could make a stock trading club and fill the minimum requirement pretty quickly

Please don’t start an organization! You’ll spent massive amounts of time on legal and administrative paperwork and have no time and energy for the actual program. You even may leave for college before getting your IRS tax exemption; without that, someone who gives you money won’t be able to take a tax deduction (seriously impeding your fundraising). Rather than leadership, you’ll have a mess. Other students have thought they could do this, and a few of us (adults) with experience have worked to dissuade them. Find the old threads and read them carefully before deciding to start your own organization.

They were talking about making a club, which I assumed was a school club and shouldn’t have nearly as much paperwork involved. Club’s generally just require an application with officers, a list of names to show interest, and a club constitution.
