What do I do now?

Hey everyone,

I recently finished up my second semester in Grad school toward getting my MLIS degree. Unfortunately, I didn't do so well and I just received the letter notifying me that I was dismissed from my program. Needless to say, I'm devastated. I worked really hard this past year, but I was working full time and it just overwhelmed me, so I didn't get the necessary grades. I want nothing else right now than to finish up my degree. I recently got an internship in my field and I was quitting my full time job to concentrate on my schooling. Now I don't know what to do. Is there any chance I could get re-admitted? Would I have to apply again and get accepted again? What are my chances of getting accepted again if I already failed once?

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I would take at least a semester off. You’re going to need to petition or appeal for readmission, and you will need to explain how your effort and performance will change sufficiently to merit another chance.

Talk to the program director. Find out what your options are. It won’t be easy, given your current emotions, but you’ll need to do it if you want a chance to continue in the future.
