I've been watching anime since I was sooo young (DBZ, yuyu hakusho etc..) and got addicted while all my friends have moved on. Been trying to quit since freshman yr in high school but can't. Never let any of my past g/fs find out because they might think I am immature. Starting college this fall and staying on campus roomming w/ a girl. I KNOW for sure I'll wanna watch them (Bleach, Naruto etc..) on my free time. Sooo, u guys think I am being paranoid or are people gonna find that weird?

Yes, people will find it weird, but I’m sure you will find other people who like it too. I work with a guy who is 20, seems perfectly normal albeit a bit nerdy, and has great social skills. Just found out the other day he is obsessed with anime and goes to Otakon every year. So… ya never know.

I’m 27, love Japanese culture, and enjoy watching the occasional anime. If any girl you meet can not appreciate a whimsical Hiyao Miyazaki film like Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, or Kiki’s Delivery Service, do you really want to be dating her anyway?;)

I would think you might be a friend of my sons. They are 19 and still enjoy anime. Enoying anime is part of who you are. Don’t hide that, there’s nothing wrong with it. Look at how many other hobbies/interests people have throughout their lifetime. The college my one son will be attending has an Anime club.

Spirted Away is one of my six year old daughters favorite movies…go figure.

It’s just an interest. My previous college had an Anime club…actually, they called it a “Japanese cultural interest society” but all they did was watch anime on those movie projector things.

I wouldn’t imagine many people would care or think less of you; find people who are into it too and start your own “Japanese cultural interest society”

I have the same problem - i am pretty casual about it though. There are PLENTY of college people who enjoy anime and manga… just don’t overdo it (like dressing up to anime conventions). If you like doing that stuff, there are also people who like that - but they are far fewer. In the end, you will find people just like you in college

“just don’t overdo it (like dressing up to anime conventions).”

Lol. I am not THAT much into it. I don’t even have any anime posters in my room. I am just addicted to watching the new episodes online and play the video games.

Hey, a lot of people think my bf is cool, but then laugh when they hear that he likes Magic cards. I used to watch a lot of anime, but have moved on to Japanese dramas. Nothing wrong with enjoying it, I think people are more repelled when they see that it can take over somebody’s life (I saw some weird people at the one anime convention I did go to). Any girl that’s worth keeping will understand that you will have a nerdy interest (which are kind of endearing). I mean, some guys choose to get high, you choose anime.

I enjoy anime. Im not obsessed with it or anything but i dont mind watchin it. when i was a kid i watched DBZ and stuff. Besides like someone previously said some colleges have clubs like that where you can enjoy anime with others. I know my college has an Anime Club
