Just out of curiosity, GPA wise, and all that. What do you think would be good standing to be admitted as a transfer to UCLA under Sociology?

4.00

It’s sociology.

Well, the avg admitted gpa last yr was 3.73, and with admissions getting tougher every year you should have at least a 3.8 to be competitive.

I’d do some related ECs too, habitat for humanity might be a good choice for a sociology major. You could do a nice essay with that

At least a 3.6, all-pre-reqs completed with mostly A’s, good ECs, try to finish English, Math, and pre-reqs by Fall.

@ticktock, i would say even if a student has a 3.7 gpa and 4.0 in pre-reqs, that person would still be in a borderline situation because it is one of the harder majors to get into, a bit more difficult than psychology.

ticktock- what is your GPA,pre-req GPA and grade trends? those play a factor.

im a high school senior that will be attending CCs for the next two years.

Join TAP if your school has it.

^ that doesn’t help.

Just get a 3.8+ gpa, get a 4.0 major GPA, do EC’s, and write a great personal statement when you apply.

TAP doesn’t help? A TAP applicant has over a 90% acceptance rate at UCLA.

TAP definitely DOES help. Also, you get to choose an alternate major which is awesome.

Of course TAP helps. Why would you ask for advice and then turn it down when someone gives it to you? lol.

What is TAP?

3.73 is the avg for 2010. i’d say complete all ur major prereqs first because thats important, join tap if you think you will get below a 3.73 (tap is part of the honors program at your cc, but make sure to see if your cc is a tap participant --ucla gives prioritiy consideration to tap students), do some extra curriculars that actually interest u or anything that will relates to ur major, ummm what else, and write a straightforward and thorough personal that reflects u best and you should be in :]

I am not from California, am out of state. I am from Illinois if that means anything, I’m guessing there is no TAP down here.

^ not only is there no TAP, but you’ll be last in line when it comes to admission priority

^^^^that is true.

Because the order of admission priority for Berkeley, UCLA and all UC’s are: California community college students, other UC’s, and lastly out of state colleges as well as other california colleges like the CSU.

actually, the uc’s are increasing the number of out-of-state students this year (i believe 20% at uc berkeley) due to the state budget cuts. so that is def good news for you.
