of the social life at northwestern? i've heard a little bit regarding both sides (stay in and study vs. go out all the time), but i was wondering if anyone has any insight as to what you can actually do on the weekends at NU. do people go into evanston to bars? chicago? stay on campus? are the frats open to underclassmen? is there any social life at all on the weekends? if you arent in one of the "social" dorms (from what i've gathered, bobb/elder?) are you doomed?

To address your last question: the dorm you get into really does not matter that much. I’m living in Foster Walker this year and still have an active social life. What matters is the effort that you put in; if you’re friendly and put yourself out there then you’re more likely to meet more people and have a very active social life, if that is your thing. There definitely are people here at NU that fit into both both of those extremes, but I definitely think there’s a good balance of people here. The weekends (and Mondays) are very social–you can definitely go to bars, restaurants, etc on campus - and people do. There is also an ENDLESS amount of things to do in the city: many great concerts, bars, restaurants, hookah lounges–whatever you can think of.

Any more questions? Lemme know.

bumppp…

It seems like social life at Northwestern is really polarized between “artsy/theater/hipster” types and “greek/football-loving/american pie” types. It seems like even the campus is split in two.

I like to think of myself as someone who is neither artsy hipster nor sorority girl. I like mixes of people.

Is there a good social mix at Northwestern, or do you really have to choose one of the two scenes?
