What do your parents pay for?

And what do you pay for? And when do you plan on becoming independent of their money? My parents pay for insurance, tuition, and groceries. I pay for everything else, and I don't have a car. I plan on becoming independent after I finish law school (I am an undergrad right now).

I live at home so they pay for everything. I’m the middle of an unfruitful job search, so hopefully I’ll be able to take on some things by myself.
When I’ll be independent? After I graduate and get a job.

A lot depends on grad school though.

I’m going to start becoming independent in august once my job starts, but it doesn’t pay much and I’m still in undergrad. Hopefully once I get a full time job after school I’ll be independent, though if I decide to go to law school or graduate school I’ll still be on my parents dime.

Right now they pay for everything.

Health and car insurance. That’s literally it. And I’m an incoming freshman. Wish they paid for tuition/dorm…

My parents pay for nearly everything. Tuition, housing, meal plan, and books. I don’t have a car so I don’t need insurance or gas money. I pretty much just pay for extra food and groceries and clothes. But I’m sure they would if I asked. I guess I’m pretty spoiled. I guess I’ll become independent after I graduate in 3 years. If I eventually decide to to do grad school, I’ll probably pay for it myself.

I’m supposed to be paying for all my tuition through loans, but they only are letting me take out a little less the 6k max. a year. So my mom is paying for the remaining loans until I am done with school. She also pays for my car, health insurance, and phone. I pay for all my spending money and food right now. I am planning on being independent after law school. I am extremely grateful for all my mom’s help.

Tuition, food, insurance, my car. I pay for gas, clothes + whatever else I feel I might want.

They pay insurance- health and car. That’s it.

I will be completely independent when I get a full time job. My sister is 25 and my parents still pay for her insurance, phone, some tuition, etc. I am more independent than her at 20 and I can’t imagine still relying on them in 5 years.

I was going to pay for it on my own through loans and finiancial aid, but my mother have this idea that I will be in prison of debts once I graduates so she pays it for me lol

My parents pay my car insurance, tuition, and since I live at home, usually my food/ groceries unless I eat out or go shopping myself.
I pay for my phone, books, car things, and other stuff I want.
I wanted to take out loans and pay for my school when I was done but my dad wants something to hold over my head to get me to do stuff so he payed before I finished up my paperwork.
I don’t plan on further schooling after my undergrad so hopefully I will be independent in two years.

Since I live at home and attend community college–everything.

Well, I think my parents are probably going to pay the remainder of my tuition that isn’t covered by my grants/work-study. My parents don’t want me to take out any loans if I don’t have to… and that’s probably a good idea with me being a Theatre/French major… Those are pretty useless and I have no idea what type of job I’ll be able to get out of college. lol

And my health insurance is covered by Tri-Care… And I guess my parents will pay for my car insurance/gas if I take my car… Still not decided on that. My mom wants me to, my dad doesn’t… but the car’s in my mom’s name… So perhaps she wins?

I don’t care about being independent of them… I just don’t want to be a burden on my parents. I figure that they’ll probably chip in here or there until after I graduate.

As a high school student, I payed for everything except food, my car insurance, and my high school tuition. Since I’ll be going into college with full tuition scholarship, my parents have asked me to quit working so I can focus on keeping my scholarship, while they’ll pay for everything again. I guess I’ll become financially independent when we/I decide I can work again (and work enough hours) while keeping up the minimum GPA.

Lol *** high school tuition?

Not starting college till the fall, but my parents are pretty much going to pay for everything not covered by grants: tuition, dorms, meal plan, health insurance, personal expenses, school and dorm supplies, plane tickets. They did the same for my brother. He pretty much became independent once he entered grad school on account of his full ride (they do pay for his health insurance and cell phone bill though, but that’s because they’re both family plans so it saves money). If I do work-study, I’ll probably use that for books / food outside of my meal plan / other small expenses.

Although financially it’s a burden on my parents, they don’t mind covering for me and my brother.

My whole tuition/housing/meals are free so they give me random money sometimes for additional food and clothing, generally I save that money they give me for concert tickets, alcohol, and drugs. It’s the good life here…lol

High school tuition cost more for me than college will and I was on scholarship at my high school. Private school is expensive.

^ Exactly. Because my high school was expensive (though I’m coming to realize totally not worth it), I had to become pretty independent in terms of what I had to pay for. I had to pay for everything other than my car insurance (because I needed a car to get to school) and the food in the fridge (anytime I didn’t eat at home I had to pay for that too). So anyways, it’s weird because I’m kind of moving backwards in terms of independence now that I’m going to college. Not that I’m complaining. :D

I’m an incoming freshman. My parents are paying tuition, room and board. I’m paying for my dorm shopping (which will total out to be about $500), books, and transportation, which will be about $1500 per year. Other than that, I will pay for any food for my dorm, and medical perscriptions, which I’ve been paying for 2 years now. They pay my car insurance and phone bill and I pay for gas. I’m very blessed. Love my parents!

oh, and they pay my health insurance.
