I initially submitted a 1410 SAT and my GPA is 3.9. I’m planning on retaking the SAT in December, but I’m not sure how much I can really improve. Is this a denial? What should I do?
Make sure your test scores went through. Not to make you feel bad, but my SAT score was an 1150 and I got in. This doesn’t seem right at all. You have a very high score. What about ECs?
I agree with di74caza…doesn’t seem right. But to answer your question (assuming it was right), they simply mean you are borderline and they want more information to make a decision (in this case, a higher test score.
Since your scores are so high, you may have been grouped with other applicants with high scores and maybe it came down to ECs. but call them…im just a student lol
Is the 1410 a superscore or your actual? If it’s actual, then I believe MSU made a mistake on your status. Your score is worthy of a lot of scholarship money. My friend’s daughter received almost $10,000 / year with a 33 on the ACT which I believe is just slightly better than your 1410. You don’t need a higher test score. Call the admissions office to inquire.
(517) 355-8332 is the general admissions number. Also, the status states that they are looking for an official SAT score - make sure that College Board submitted the score otherwise, it won’t be “official”.
Someone might have accidentally treated the 1410 as a score out of 2400, rather than 1600. I would call to inquire. There’s no reason they would be asking you to improve on a 1410/1600.
What is your intended major? Is it possible you put down a major that is more competitive than the admissions to the general university? My D was accepted last year with stats lower than yours but she was an Ed. major. I don’t recall if there are any majors at MSU that have a higher standard to get into but I know that at other schools some majors can be more competitive to get in.
I agree with others that you should definitely call admissions and ask. When calling remain calm at all times and be polite and patient. Make sure that they have gotten the information that you think that they should have, and that they know that your SAT was 1410 out of 1600.
It is possible that they either know that you are retaking the December SAT or that they are waiting for first semester grades. It is just as likely that something got lost and you just need to figure out what it is.
That makes even less sense. Education majors have much lower stats than that.
Don’t email - a random student worker answers with mandatory canned answer.
Look up the name of your regional rep and CALL him/her directly. Do not get dobbed off to a random office (student) worker. Call him/her directly and ask what a sufficient test score is for education (odds are, 1200). If you cannot get him/her on the phone email and provide all your data (GPA, test scores /1600, each AP taken with score, etc.)
Your profile is good enough to get into Education at UMichigan BTW.
I agree that the education major makes even less sense. Something is not right. My daughter was admitted to education and has a 4.0 GPA (weighted) 3.8 UW and a 1240 on the SAT. Much lower than yours. You should call and speak to your admissions officer (there is a specific officer assigned to each school). If you are not comfortable doing that, set up a meeting with your high school counselor - they could make the call for you as they talk with their assigned admissions officer often. Good luck!!!
My D is an Education major and was accepted last year with 3.75 GPA and a 26 ACT. 1210 on the old SAT and we are OOS. That just doesn’t seem right that with your stats that you are not in. She ended up not going to MSU but it was one of her top two schools. She also had 1 AP class, several dual credit classes and was pretty involved in volunteer work and clubs. Just seems odd with your numbers that they are waiting on additional scores.
