^^^
S is still the same as baseballbrown & bmwguy. Stat's in line w/ already accepted, great ec plays to the major. He thought the interview went well. Who knows about recs, should be fine though. I'm second guessing his essay which was well written but not spot-on with the prompt.

Well on the bright side, he was invited to interview for the "Town & Gown" scholarship (for Southern CA residents, it's a USC group but not affiliated w/ admissions).

Does the following message means I HAVE to send mid-term report or is it still optional (I have not received any mail/email). I had not looked up the status page until today. Click here link below is active on my page.

We have completed a preliminary review of your application. We sometimes request additional information (senior-year grades, for example), so be sure to watch the mail. You may submit senior year grades at usc.edu/MDYResponse, even if we did not specifically request them. We are continuing to review applications and expect to mail notification of a decision by April 1st.

Click here to submit mid-year grades online.

I have the same message at this point and chose to send them without waiting for USC to ask. I figured my first semester grades were pretty good and if they were to ask for them later, my action could only expedite the process. I guess we'll have to wait and find out if that holds true.

The only thing we know that this status, with an Oasis link, has thus far indicated an acceptance:

"Your application is being reviewed by the admission committee. We will mail notification of their decision by April 1. If for some reason you don't receive our written notice, we will be happy to provide the results over the phone beginning April 11th."

I just read that deans scholarship letters will go out next week, so hopefully I'll get a link by then.

Last Updated: 12/10/2008!!!

...what?!?! They haven't done anything with my application in over two months?! Does this mean I'm rejected already? Or are they waiting on my mid-year scores to see if I'm a failure at life? Or maybe they forgot to update my status? Or maybe they're doing a criminal background check on my past history as the leader of black market crime syndicate?

If nothing else, this thread is VERY entertaining.

Don't worry, this year's applicants. This happens every year. This process of acceptances in waves may seem very random and confusing but USC really does know what they are doing.

Here is some advice:
-Don't take it personally. The date on which you receive your answer is not indicative of what kind of person you are. Many applicants who get their answer at "the end" (by April 11) are extremely high ranking students and go on to be successful in life.
-We have many examples of acceptances from last year who never had an update.
-We have many examples of acceptances from last year who had seemingly random updates.
-Status updates mean nothing.
-Having a link/not having a link means nothing, yet. Just wait.
-Relatively speaking, very few get their acceptances at this time.
-No one is rejected yet.
-Even if you don't get a great merit scholarship, there are MANY other options for GREAT financial aid.
-Most of the acceptances will come at the very end (late March/early April.)
-Rejections come at the VERY END. No final decisions about rejections have been made about anyone.
-It's not over until April 11.
-It will all be OK.
-It really will be OK.
-Here's the best part that is a BIG SECRET- don't tell anyone I told you this: your grades don't matter this last semester. Just don't get any D's or F's. Go enjoy your senior year.

Echo, don't worry. Wasn't the application deadline the 10th of January? I doubt they started assessing the applications till after that. There are still 2 months to review the applications. Best of luck! (Hopefully they will ignore your sordid background!)

Someone posted earlier that he/she called and asked about this. They were told that Admissions hadn't even begun to assess the bulk of the applications (my guess is that they pulled the scholarship recipients first). I think the prelim review is just to make sure all the docs are in.

nbg127, I was the one who made that comment about the bulk of the applications, and it's very true. Everyone here is freaking out, but the truth is that most people appications haven't gone beyond the preliminary review, and most of us won't hear back for at least a month. When I called she told me that they hadn't even taken a second glance at my application yet, and I'm not worried at all. When, and how soon they look at your application doesn't have to have anything to do whether you get accepted or not.

This status means that I'm not getting any scholarship and that I'm a borderline applicant, right?:

"We have completed an initial review of your application and would like to see the results of the first term of your senior year (final, not mid-term marks).

Status last updated: 02/02/2009"

Sadness ): And I only know 4 out of 5 final grades. So far my GPA has dropped this semester so I'm probably not getting in.

Since 12/09/08! Woo!!!

Not worried though. Just checking the mail every day.

My status has said that since 12/09/08 as well. it's killing me! what is the very latest that USC will send out the early acceptances for the scholarships?
