What does your status page say? 2.0

what are everyone's stats who received the change? maybe that will give us a hint to whether or not it has anything to do with possible scholarship consideration....

amy...I was actually looking at that myself and have come to the conclusion that this first round is the scholarship round for sure. For the most part I found that most of you have top stats and even some have already received scholarships from other acceptances....I know, I'm snoopy, but really just trying to get an idea of the stages I have read so much about! Congrats to those of you with "the change".

Haha well i've been doing the exact same thing nbg. I'm getting really anxious, and I've been going through peoples' posts to see their stats, but i was hoping people would post them here so I wouldn't have to do so much looking around! Ahh I really hope there is some connection between the change and scholarship consideration!

I hope there isn't, because while I do want to be realistic and am just hoping to get in, some scholarship money would be lovely as well. (although unlikely) :p

well it is definitely possible to get a scholarship and not find out until march. it just won't be one of the big ones that an interview is required for.

wait are you guys talking about the: "We have received and are currently reviewing your application. We recommend you check here occasionally for an update on the status of your application."

Not everyone has that up?

Zirc - Nope. Also looking at the threads from last year, the only great news from the status change came in the first two rounds...really interesting discussions last year around all of this. The rest of the applicants status changes didn't mean too much with acceptances happening in late March with scholarship awards. Sequoia has a lot of info on all of this and has posted this year if you don't want to wade through last years stuff. I think those posts are right on after doing my "research".

If I remember correctly, this is the order of the status notifications:

We have received and are currently reviewing.......meaning they've received your stuff.
We have completed a preliminary review........meaning they've gone through your app/recs/scores etc to make sure everything's there (if not they will contact you)
Your app is being reviewed by the admissions committee.......meaning that the adcom is actually in the process of assessing your app.
Your application has been acted upon......meaning a decision has been made.
(wording might be a bit off)

Last year, this last status ("acted upon") indicated that an acceptance was already in the mail. It also indicated that there was a high likelihood of a scholarship invitation for either Trustee or Pres. These acceptances were all sent out in late January/early February since scholarship interviews are held in late Feb/early March and sessions need to be reserved. (A letter notification of such an invitation is sent out shortly after acceptance).
Also, keep in mind you can still get a Dean's scholarship (no interview), if you aren't invited for the big ones and these acceptances generally come out after the first ones. And ofcourse, USC does give out terrific aid without scholarships so keep that in mind.

However as I mentioned before, the statuses were not always updated as time went along, particularly the "acted upon" one, and even later the "being reviewed by admissions". In the early rounds I guess it was easier to synchronize the info, but when they were working on so many apps, this became less obvious. So it's important to remember that if your status doesn't change, you should not worry, particularly if time goes on.

Wish you all the best of luck!

Broadcast Journalism.. What about you?

Ok so my status recently changed in the past couple of hours to-
"We have completed a preliminary review of your application........ We are continuing to review applications and expect to mail notification of a decision by April 1st. "

I am assuming this isn't the change that everyone has been mentioning in regards to scholarship notifications coming in.

Status changed to: "Your application is being reviewed by the admission committee. We will mail notification of their decision by April 1" yesterday. Submitted 11/28/2008.

Basic Stats:
35 ACT
4.5 W GPA
Rank: 9/896
Full AP schedule this year; honors and AP throughout grades 9-11. APEURO: 5; APUSH: 5; APENGLANG: 5

Finalist at DECA Nationals Last year; VP in DECA Chapter,
President of Spanish Honors Society,
Varsity Golf,
Community Service...etc.

Any engineering students with a status change?

Patiently waiting...

Well, trying to.

i'm a molecular biology / chemistry major

and i'm gonna go ahead and guess iomr is getting a scholarship lol

Has anyone's status changed to "Your app is being reviewed by the admissions committee......" today, or was that all yesterday? By today, I mean does the status update date say "Status last updated: 01/22/2009."

I really hope their system is just slow cus my status has been "prelim review" since 12/11/08. Maybe its cus im in FL and they do the app review or update by state/region?

btw iomr i was a finalist in ICDC too. what event were you in?

So my question is: Has anyone who applied by the freshman scholarship consideration deadline NOT changed to "your app is being reviewed..."?

And a HUGE caveat: I remember reading about a kid last year whose status never changed from the preliminary review one, but received his acceptance and invitation to interview for one of the biggies with the other early acceptances. Many variables could come into play (departmental, etc.) and we're basically reading tea leaves at this point.

^thats a relief. and yea i turned in the app before dec. 1 and still have that status. I think there are quite a few of us.

To lyrical_liar:

Yeah, my app is still hasn't changed, and it's been in that stage since about the same time as you, and we're both in FL. Weird.

Hey just thought i'd check in to help out--

I am ALSO in FL, and my status page is still on the prelim review (since 11/26/08). I don't know if I'm up for the big scholarships (if anything my SAT may be slightly lower than the general awardee) but I'm thinking the lack of change in my status may be departmental (cinematic arts) and it may be region based. I think we all just have to remain calm and wait through the next two weeks with our fingers crossed. Good luck everyone!
