what DONT you like about Emory?

Right. Well, I apologize for being a part of the hijacking of the thread. I am not a current Emory student, and I never claimed to be. I am a prospective student.

The things that I dislike about Emory are the bidding system and the lack of competitive DI athletics (and all the excitement that come with them). Also, around here (NJ) Emory sort of has a reputation for being a strictly Pre-Med institution at the undergrad level. That’s a bit annoying because I plan to study philosophy at college (then law school) and when people hear that I’m applying to Emory they ask “Oh, are you going Pre-Med?” But that’s not really a big deal.

Take a look at [The Emory Wheel | Emory University’s Student Newspaper](http://www.emorywheel.com). In the most recent issue, it is reported that the Emory Men’s swim team finished 3rd At the Miami University Invitational, amongst primarily D1 teams. I’d say that’s pretty competitive!

“Also, around here (NJ) Emory sort of has a reputation for being a strictly Pre-Med institution at the undergrad level”

So you’re basing your decision partially upon a perceived stereotype that a certain inconsequential number of people hundreds of miles away have about a school they most of them never attended? That makes sense.

Also, less than 10% of students are pre med.

^No, I’m not basing my decision on it at all. It’s just something that bugs me. I go on to say about the subject in my post: “But that’s not really a big deal.”

i seem to be in the minority but i love the bidding system for classes. in my experience (four semesters of bidding) if you are strategic you will get all of the classes you want. By that i mean that each semester i look at the class size, spots left, and popularity of the class and then bid accordingly. i have gotten all of the classes i wanted (knock on wood).

I’m just so confused because when you gave your reasons, you say that they’re not a big deal. So I guess I just don’t understand their reasons. I don’t really care either, but I’m just saying. And procrastinating writing my term papers

There are a lot of pre-med/business/law kids here - not saying that there aren’t people in other majors, but it would be impossible to ignore the pre-professional part of the experience here.
