what GPA do colleges look at?

on my parent portal, there is an Academic GPA, Total GPA, and 10-12 GPA. which one do UC’s, Cal States, and privates look at?

Cal States and UC’s have their own GPA calculation using only 10-11th grades for the a-g courses. You get extra honors points for UC approved Honors/AP/IB or DE courses.
CSU’s and most UC’s only use the capped weighted UC GPA. UCLA/UCB also use the fully weighted UC GPA.

Private schools usually will use the 9-12 academic GPA. Private schools do not have a standard on how they calculate your weighted GPA so use your unweighted.

You will either self-report your grades (CSU/UC’s) or send official transcripts (privates) so the schools will calculate your GPA based on their criteria. It is helpful to know your UW GPA and UC GPA for gauging your chances.

Thanks so much!!
