wondering because i’m ranked 78/308 with a 4.09 weighted
My 4.09 unweighted gets me at the 93rd percentile… 35/~500
Never knew how big the disparity was between some schools
How can unweighted be over 4.0? Isn’t 4.0 straight A’s on an unweighted scale?
High school grade weighting varies considerably and colleges know this. Some have massive grade inflation, others don’t. Many schools don’t even have rankings.
Colleges are able to tease out the info they need from the HS submitted school profiles that accompany applications. Asking what the top 25% GPA at other schools won’t really tell you anything other than it varies widely.
A+ is a 4.3 for some schools
At my school which uses the scale AP-5.0, Honors-4.5, Regular-4.0, a 4.09 would probably just barely make the top 25%. Likely somewhere between 20% and 25%.
My kids’ school profile only lists deciles, not quartiles, but doing a little bit of extrapolating, top quarter should hit about 3.81 weighted. Honors = 5, AP = 6, and they just changed the grading scale a year or so ago and messed everyone up. :))
Hmmmm at my school it’s probably around a 3.7- not very high, I know!
3.9/4.0 UW
3.9/4.0 UW. I think im at the 80th percentile. My school is really competitive tho lol.
At the HS that I will be attending, the top 25% have 4.0 UW and 4.5 W.
Depends on the class. some perform better than others. Last year 90% probably wouldnt get the top 25%. Other years it would. Top 10 ended around 95%.
I’m sorry I can’t tell you what’s the top 25% as I have no idea how class ranking works, but in our county, the maximum unweighted GPA is 4.0, and the maximum weighted GPA is 5.0. However, getting a 5.0 for your weighted GPA is extremely challenging as you have to take seven APs in order to get that grade. In terms of weight, they add 0.5 for Honors on our final grade while they add 1.0 for AP on our final grade.
Have a good day and happy holidays!
95+/100 …but we don’t even have rank
How does everyone know this? Like are you guys personally calculating this?
We don’t rank, and we don’t weight. It’s a very convoluted system for us.
Generally, I think a 3.8ish and above gets you in the top 25%, depending on your courseload.
I have a 3.4~ and I’m ranked about 25~ out of 100
I have a 3.9 UW and I’m 6/353, if that helps.
@cliffnotes I mean every school has a different policy. There is no rank at my school but avg GPA and highest GPA is provided…average GPA is a 90/100 and the highest is around 98…but judging from my peers and how small 25% is…94-96 is pretty accurate. But people who are at 92 or 93 still end up fine!
@Wolfgangbread my school is the same way…no rank or weight.
Weighted would be 4.7+
