I’m in high school(11grade) and don’t know what grades universities need to recieve. Do they need my middle and high school grades or only high school?
Most cooleges just want your HS grades 9-11th when you apply. Some Middle school grades could be posted on your HS transcript (depends on your HS’s policy). Some schools will ask for Mid-year Senior transcript. Get a copy of your HS transcript from your counselor and also ask your counselor whom should be familiar with the college requirements.
Thank you
@Gumbymom I did not do well in some high school level classes I took in middle school yet they show up on my hs transcript. These courses are clearly defined as courses I took in middle school. These will not count to my recalculated gpa right?
My school now does not calculate these middle school courses as part of my hs gpa.
It all depends upon your HS policy. If these grades show up on your HS transcript they will need to be reported on your college applications. How each each college uses these grades is up to them.
Your HS will send a school report with your official transcript to each college showing the HS grading system.
If applying to EA/ED (most of the times, although rarely varies by period), they will check 9th to 11th grade (inclusive) grades, depending on school policy, just as Gumbymom said. For example, University of California universities only check 10th grade and 11th grade grades.
If applying RD, most of the times, they will check from 9th grade grades up to first semester grades of the 12th grade year, with exception to some schools.
Some high school transcripts will show the grade you received in middle school if the course you took in middle school year counts as a high school credit (ex. Algebra 1, Geometry); however, most of the times it will just show whether you received the credit or not instead of the grade you got from the class.
But ultimately, you don’t have to worry about these; just ask your guidance counselor, and he/she will take care all for you. That’s what they are there for. They will send whatever is necessary based on the policy of the school you are applying to.
@HardOREasy and @kjake2000: The California UC’s require you self-report all grades 9-11th for the a-g course requirements but only use 10-11th grades for their GPA calculation. The Cal States also ask about Middle school courses: Math (Algebra/Geometry) and Foreign language but do not require your grades from Middle school.
