i never attached one of my essays in my common app, and i submitted it to two colleges. i had to write them and ask if i could send in the attachment anyways.

I haven't made any huge mistakes, but my teacher still hasn't submitted her teacher evaluation ..crap.

I wrote "Lead staff" instead of "Led staff" >.<

I dreamt last night that the Common app actually required two personal essays and that I skipped one altogether.

And for Gtown, I checked some box that asked if you had relatives attend Georgetown but I forgot to put their name down later on in the app because I was going to go ask my parents for their full name, but totally forgot before I hit submit.

Shoot! I just looked everything over again, and realized that I left my mom's employer as "me". She is a "homemaker", but I wasn't going to put anything there! I had put "me" there just as a joke for my dad to catch when I showed him.. :/ What do I do?

you don't put titles on your essays, that's weird and really pretentious.

pianista: That's actually kind of cute, haha. I really don't think they'll mind/care, but change it for your other apps.

so i just read over my common app essay. i was so keen on just being done with everything and clicking 'submit' and i failed to notice that i wrote "end meets" instead of "ends meet" in my common app when discussing a jazz musician i met. *sigh...i hope it doesn't prevent me from gaining admission

yeah, I agree with tyler09 about the titles thing. it's kind of hard to slap something on a personal essay that wouldn't sound hokey, anyway. i don't think anyone here has made a grave mistake, actually. o_O and pianista, i think you'll be fine. i think it's cute, lol.

i think everyone in this thread needs to go look up the "clam fart" thread, actually. :D

i disagree about titles being "pretentious." but i also don't think they're necessary either. it's really up to the applicant.

I made the biggest mistake you can possibly make in an application essay when applying to my state flagship... I put something along the lines of "that's why I want to go to University of Michigan" and sent it to University of Florida. College night was a few days after I submitted and I talked about it to the rep. We had a good laugh, and she didn't say that there was no way I was getting in but my entire school is ribbing me about it...

I said that I took my AP gov test in 07, but I took it in 08

Two years ago older S sent an essay to USC film school that stated he wanted to go to FSU film school. He overnighted a mea culpa letter and the corrected essay. He was accepted with a large scholarship. So they understand mistakes and that students need to cover all their bases by applying to multiple colleges. But definitely it is something to try to avoid.

pianista, cute one about you being your mom's employer! That will get some chuckles. S1 did something similar -- listed his dad's profession on one application as "faceless bureaucrat." Got a full ride from said school.

Gotta do something to make these admissions folks notice you, but I can definitely say S's goof-up was NOT intentional...

But I was trying to make my DAD laugh, not my admissions officer... who happens to be a slightly older serious-looking male. My dad went through my application at 7 in the morning when we were submitting it and didn't catch it. I was half asleep and forgot to change it before actually submitting it. And I can't really contact them about ... that because it's sort of true?

Don't contact them -- it's OK!!! Seriously, they will not reject you for this. I saw my S's application, too, and it wasn't until two months later that we noticed the Faceless Bureaucrat part had remained from the initial draft.

I accidentally left the "Do you plan to participate in this activity in college, if applicable?" boxes blank.

I'm hoping that it won't impact anything too much :(

I also didn't do the titles thing. It just seemed really forced to me.

DON'T WORRY ABOUT TITLES. You don't need them!

I almost forgot to put that I'm a member and President of the Chess Club.
