What happen if one of my rec letter missed?

My son is doing EA, dead line is Nov. 1, today, I checked his Naviance acct, one of the teacher suppose to write my son a rec letter haven't submitted (she is on maternity leave, but my son gave his school list and instructions to her the day she came in to the school, she agreed to do it for him). Since the teacher is not come to school, only thing we could do is to send her an email, but she may not open her email during the maternity leave. The other teacher's rec status shows completed.

I am just wondering, what the college will do if there is one rec letter not received? Are they going to send letter to let us know the letter is missing, or they are going to process without the letter?

Thanks for giving me any related information.

If it is possible then try to get in touch with the teacher over telephone. At this moment, I think that’s the only thing which can give you assurance whether she would be able to complete the recommendation.

You still have time, so do not worry. And best of luck

You could also try calling the school to see whether the teacher mailed in the rec in which case it might not be showing up on your Naviance acct. If the rec letter is missing when the deadline comes, the school will probably consider the application incomplete and defer it to regular decision. Another option if you can’t reach this teacher is to invite a different teacher to recommend.

Definitely find another teacher. Better to have too many than too few. Have your child explain the situation. You don’t want to wait until the last minute and then find out that the teacher on maternity leave can’t or won’t complete the LOR. And, to answer your question, I would imagine that the colleges will consider the application incomplete if you only have one LOR. Incomplete means that your child will not even be considered for admittance.

If it helps ease your fears at all, with child #1 for a school that required 2 teacher recs, our HS guidance office got a call that one rec was missing and they asked teacher to fax it in. Student eventually was admitted EA. In your case I would still follow up with this teacher ASAP though.

Thank you all for the information!
We already sent email to the teacher to remind her last night. Since her phone# is confidential, the school will not give her # to us.

Should the letter load to computer by the school office or by the teacher? Should the status of LOR be updated once the college receive the letter?

Basicly I want to know how the system works, and how do I tell if the teacher finally completed the rec after she received our email.
