I am a volunteer in my local high school's guidance department. I discovered today that a number of our high-end students had no idea that there were FAFSA and Profile deadlines of 2/1 for a number of schools. This is a very low-income district where the kids are desperately in need of FA. Does anyone have any knowledge of a situation like this where kids have missed these deadlines?

It depends upon the school as to whether or not it’s an issue. The problem is that SEOG and PERKINS funds are very limited, and they tend to go to the earlier batches of applcants, Also for some schools with limited finanicial aid, money can run out. It’s pretty much first come, first serve. For some schools, it’s not a big issue in that they wern’t going to meet need anyways or are able to meet it anyways. From the years I’ve been on this forum, I’ve not seen anyone shut out entirely because they were a bit late on the deadline.

I have the same question. What if they were submitted three days late? What if the PROFILE was filled out in plenty of time for one college, but the others were not added until three days after the deadline?

cptofthehouse,
Thanks for your insight and experiences with this. We’ll have to keep our fingers crossed for these kids.

Generally the deadlines are priority deadlines, not shut you out completely deadlines. Musicmom, if you only missed the deadlines by a few days it should be ok. Nothing to do but wait and see.
