Say you complete the honors program within the political science department. Does anything happen? Is that noted on your diploma transcript/ are you recognized at graduation?

I know the letters and science comprehensive academic distinction is noted in the diploma.

You should get a golden cord to wear at graduation. Also your graded thesis will be taken into account if you apply to grad school in political science, for example.

Otherwise I don’t think it’s worth it.

i’m still far away from graduation, but i would think that all that money spent over 4 years for education was worth it; a verification that i used my 4 years well.

i suppose it might help w/ getting a job?

It depends on what career you chose to go into though.

For political science, the honors thesis is recommended to be 50 to 60 pages. It will help if you wish to attend a graduate program in political science. But not so much if you want to attend law school, for example.

Law schools will prefer that you have a higher gpa without honors than if you took the honors course and received a lower grade in it.

I would recommend it only if you REALLY LOVE YOUR SUBJECT. The tangible benefits are limited if you don’t want to pursue academia in the future. Also I would recommend only if you are confident you can put in the time and man hours to receive a good grade. Otherwise it would do more harm than good.
