I know I'm going to get a C or below for one of my classes that are a prereq for my major. Will it matter in the end and before u answer that, what I mean is...in the end if I get a C and my gpa is higher than a 3.0 which is what i need, then does it matter?

Is it better to get a D or F or something and retake it? I'm not sure how that works but i've heard people talk about this before. Or is that only if you do NP? but remember..this is for my major prereq (which is why I'm kind of screweeedd)

I’m going to guess you are an Econ major and your class is Econ 100A. If not, then forget it.

I think (but not positive) you can get a D+ or lower, and then retake the class to replace the old grade. But if your GPA is still higher than 3.0 is shouldn’t be a problem.

Look into the option of switching to Pass/Fail or whatever it is called at Berkeley. It may be too late or it may not even be an option, but if you haven’t checked into the possibility, check.

especially like jbaek who mentioned that everything has to be taken for letter grade.
In actual, it’s not. They make few exceptions… in reality.

If you think you will get a ****ty grade before the deadline, CHANGE TO p/np. Seriously.
Here is my 2 cent.

Don’t listen to kids like Jbaek b/c if you explain to your counselor that you wanted to something else and now that you want to do that major that needs that p/np credit, they will make that exception.

I never suggested that he take the course for a letter grade. All I was saying was the policy. If you take Econ 100A as P/F, you can be pretty sure that you will have to retake it for a letter grade in the future if you want to major in econ.

One of my friends took Math 53 & 54 over the summer as P/nP and now he has to waste time retaking the classes for a letter grade.

Also, when you call someone dumb, do it without making yourself look stupid.

You can only take a class again if you get a NP.

However, for a major class, you just have to explain it to your counselor and have your Prof email the grade to your adviser. (which actually, would not help anything except your GPA overall)

“Cal teaches me that I shouldn’t be doing something that I don’t want to be doing.”

Every lower division science/math class could be renamed “Weeder 101.”

Don’t let one (or several, they’re common here) bad grade get you down. More specifically, don’t let the lower division tech classes get you down either. These classes are designed to make you quit, so show the man what’s what and keep fighting.

And on an even more specific note, if you’re pre-med, you’ll never see Physics again after the MCAT exam. If you’re getting all C’s in your bio/chem classes, maybe, think about another career path, but of all classes, physics for pre-meds isn’t a big deal.

@clueless: you need to talk to your professor. ask him what your options are and if you can bring your grade up by doing well on the final. and it sounds like you need to hurry up and get going on this.

I don’t think you should worry that much about physics. Do you have Deweese? I had him and he is really nice about letting like 98% of the class get at least a C. He doesn’t really fail many people. I didn’t do my best in 8A or 8B with him, but I always came out with higher grades than I expected. Just don’t get far below average (less than 1 SD) or else you might be in some trouble.
