I’m concerned. I am supposed to find a work study job but it seems like most jobs are taken and my school says they don’t guarantee a job. But my financial aide office made it clear I need to make 4,000 this school year. What happens if i dont get a job? Will i just not be allowed to live on campus? I’m so stressed and confused
Have you already taken all of your stafford loans? How has the bill been paid so far for this semester? You would not have had the work study money up front anyway, you earn it as you work, as a paycheck.
Go to the student employment office or job board and look for work study openings. Ask the department of your major if they need assistants. If you can’t find a work study job, apply for a non work study job.
Are you a strong student, see if the tutoring center is hiring. Or the cafeteria.
I’m 25 and don’t have any additional loans besides the basics. I can’t work off campus, no car. I have applied and been interviewed with no luck.
Keep looking. Look for the less popular jobs. My kid worked in the call center, calling alums to solicit for money. I worked in the dining hall. Neither of those spots are particularly popular. Try there.
My main concern is will not securing a job mean i have to leave campus next semester?
I am planning on doing online classes in the spring so I’m not sure if that will affect me
You are not required to earn the 4000. You just have the opportunity to earn 4000 at a work study job provided you can get one. If you are not able to gat a WS job then you will need to find another way to pay for what the WS job would have cover.
As long as you can pay what you owe the school, you cas stay even if you cannot find a WS job.
Oh ok thanks for clearing that with me
I know i still owe my school financial aide that my aide doesn’t cover. I’ve applied for loans and all got denied and i have applied to hundreds of scholarships. Its so dtressful. I was led to believe my education depended on a ws job
Your education depends on your ability to pay. If you don’t pay for the spring semester by the due date, or set up a payment plan, they won’t allow you to attend.
You can also cut costs other ways…either rent or get used textbooks. Keep, your personal expenses to a minimum, the only costs you need to make sure are covered at your university are the billable costs. It sounds like you live on campus. Are there less expensive housing options…or food plans?
Is this current semester all paid for?
Is this a for-profit school?
Are you a freshman?
Look for other jobs. My D got some work study in her FA package last year but she did private tutoring and another part time job instead.
Yes,I’m a freshmen and i have no meal plan (chose it) and i live in a apartment because im over the age 24.
I think its paid for. I guess by may I’m supposed to have made 4000
I contacted every job podting on the school site and each posituon is filled…
I live on a small campus wjth less than a,1000 students. No car and no other job options
Go on over to the financial aid office. See if they have a suggestion for you and see if you will, have a shortfall in billable costs to your college. It doesn’t sound like you will.
But will you be able to pay your rent…and buy food?
You think it’s paid for? Can you make sure?
So your college has less than a thousand students? Maybe there just aren’t that many student jobs.
In addition to looking at the job postings, go in person and ask the manager of the dining center if they need help, then ask each of your professors if they are hiring, go to the library, the different school departments, etc. There may be jobs available that aren’t posted on line.
If you are 25, what previous job experience do you have? Could it lead to an on campus job?
Also, see if the dining hall needs substitutes. Same with the call center. They will train you…and call as needed.
