what if i get a D in AP statistics first semester of senior year??

I applied to all the UC's, cal poly SLO, university of washington, boston university.
my total GPA was a 3.5 before senior year. With this D, I will probably get a 3.0 GPA unweighted this semester. What do I do?? i know i messed up and i have to tell the colleges but what should i tell them? am i screwed?? can i still get into UC Irvine or UC riverside with this D?

Many UCs have conditions of admission that indicate that D or F grades can cause the admission to be rescinded.

[UCI - Office of Admissions and Relations with Schools](http://www.admissions.uci.edu/maa_uci/freshman_contract.html)

Also, Cal Poly:

[Terms & Conditions - Admissions - Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo](<a href=“Cal Poly Admissions”>Cal Poly Admissions)

I dont think youre screwed? when I was in HS, my friend in my AP calc class got a D first semester and she still got into UCD. Besides even though you got a D you can still take the AP stats test and pass?

by the way, UC Irvine says i just need to get a 3.0 or higher weighted. If I have a D in AP Stats but i keep a 3.0 or higher weighted gpa, am I okay?

The UC schools require that you notify them if you get any grade lower than a C. In the letter you send you have a chance to offer an explanation. I suggest you sit down with your GC and figure out what to say.

BTW are you taking Calculus? Or just Stats? And how much time have you been spending outside of class on it each week? My guess is that this is the math class you are taking senior year.

You may have a chance to skirt around this D. The UC schools have this strange (to me, anyway) concept of “validation” in which a passing grade in a subsequent math or language class erases a grade below a C in an earlier semester. See [University of California - Validation](<a href=“University of California Counselors”>University of California Counselors) This is something you should explore with your GC; if it holds in your case then you really want to double-down and make sure you pass the class this semester! Also if it holds I would be sure to mention it in the letter you send to the UCs to make sure they are aware it may apply in your case.

Lastly, the average for UCI is about a 4.0 weighted, so your GPA may not be competitive. However the UC schools guarantee admission to at least one campus to anyone in the top 9% in CA. This is based on a matrix of SAT score and junior-year GPA that your GC should be able to show you. So you may still have a shot at a UC.

UC/CSU course validation (which simply means that completing a higher level course carries the assumption that you have sufficient knowledge of the lower level course) is only for determining completion of the a-g subject requirements. It does not replace D or F grades.

So a C or higher in the second semester of the math course would allow you to get credit for having completed both semesters, but the D in first semester will still be considered for all other purposes, including GPA calculation and whether an admission offer will be rescinded.

I am in my senior year taking AP Statistics and AP Calculus BC at the same time, but I got a D in AP Statistics first semester. Should I drop this class?
