what is bob jones university?!

and of course im an open minded guy, but when you see people following such a close minded fundamentalist extremist value system, you cant help but take a couple pot shots here and there

"Necklaces, earrings, and bracelets are not permitted." no way!

well liberty college and Pensacola Christian college r rivals
PCC is a "rival" but I wouldn't compare BJU or PCC to Liberty (its not a college, but a university btw) except they are all Christian affiliated. I know quite a few people who graduated from Liberty and are very normal and the rules there are much more lax than BJU and PCC combined.

Liberty is more on-par with Grove City, Messiah College, and Eastern Mennonite University which are the generally more accepted Christian institutions.

not to mention they JUST recently allowed interracial dating
Not entirely true. Parental permission is still required in writing I believe. Curious because the ban started back a few decades ago with a caucasian student wanting to date an asian american student. Apparently it is rooted in the idea of the tower of babble etc. You can read it up on the website for their rationale - it's strange, but if you read the biblical logic it's somewhere along the lines of maintaining racial purity. Learning other languages is frowned upon as well.

to me, Bob Jones University is the culmination of the fundamentalist, extremist religious right...and its appalling.

Wait, if i read the rules right, you're not allowed to have contemporary christian music, but you can have a pistol as long as its locked?

"All weapons must be turned in for storage. Trigger locks are required for pistols. Fireworks are not permitted on campus" ***?

Don't you understand that BJU kids are the front line of the Lord's Army and must stand ready to fight should Armageddeon come to SC?!!

My mother attended Clemson University in the '70s and even THEN they were coming to the Clemson campus and harrassing people with copies of the New Testament, saying that the Clemson students must renounce their evil ways of dancing and having fun.

"Learning other languages is frowned upon as well."

Not true:

The University gives special emphasis to studies in Bible, church administration, missions, pastoral training, theology, history, education, ancient and modern languages, public speaking, drama, music, and literature.

http://www.bju.edu/about/mission.html

I agree, that's such a terribly radical school. Why would anyone go there? No country music?! It's so tame!

I emailed BJU pretending to be a new student

Hi, some of the rules seem to disagree with me. I occasionally like to go out to the movie theater with friends. Is this going to be a problem now that Im a student? Also, on the weekends I sometimes invite some of the guys over for a few drinks. We dont get drunk, just a little buzzed to loosen up the conversation. Is occasional drinking allowed? Im still confused over the movie thing. Am I supposed to not watch any movies of a G-rating? I have been watching rated R movies ever since I was born. I clearly understand the difference between fantasy and reality. Also rock is my favorite music, particularly Metallica. How do you go about enforcing this rule? I understand the dress code in class but what about when me and my girlfriend are in my room. We can wear whatever we want right? I mean thats part of expressing our sexuality. Were all young right now and everyones looking for some fun in their life. Also some nights I may be out very late and still have to study. How do you enforce the lights out policy. I might not even get to studying until midnight. Thats all I have to ask. I hope to have a very educational and fun experience here. College is the best years of our life and I plan to live my life to its fullest potential.

I agree, some of the rules look a bit overboard. But I don't know why people bash the school all the time --- If people want to be in prayer groups and only watch G-movies I don't see anything harmful about their lifestyle choices.

Looking at pictures on the website, alot of the kids look like they are out of the 1950s (and I mean that in a good way). They look like nice, wholesome kids: http://www.bju.edu/prospective/expect/

guys i just found a really disturbing image. this image was off the freshman code of conduct. this girl looks abused, with a black eye and some bruise on her neck(i would think hickey if her eye didn't look punched out!)

Check out girl on left, look closely at the left side, her right eye
http://www.bju.edu/prospective/gallery/images/bible_2.jpg

no dude thats just her undereye and an earring

lol at least someone was paying attention. i was hoping some CCers would email them about abusing women @ their school. but anyways upon further evaluation they dont seem that bad. like read this, it makes them seem like nice people.

http://www.bju.edu/resources/cheer/

I could go for a cheer package right about now....

Translation of school rules:
-Rock is made by Satan
-Videogames and Movies are also made by Satan (except for Barbie or Blues Clues...maybe...)
-No Pr0n
-Your Computer will be infested with Spyware from the Univ.
-They will burn my baby pictures (t3h indecency!)
-Weapons in school are A-OK as long as they are in "storage" (Only God knows what that means)

Wow...All I can say is, I'd rather be at a nazi death camp.

http://www.bju.edu/prospective/gallery/images/bible_2.jpg

that picture is obviously against the rules.
(notice the ____ on the left?)

Ronald Reagan thought BJU was a fine place; "Well, there you go again." LOL.
Did both G.W. Bush and McCain visit the campus during the year 2000 presidential primaries?

um on the dress code page, do they really think that girl has hair naturally that color? beacause no highlights is a rule http://www.bju.edu/prospective/expect/dress.html

um half the people i know that are Christian wear cross necklaces! what's up with that!

no contemporary christian! what can you listen to?

they must have chaperons for a mixed group off campus (dates included)!

freshmen and sophomores cannot drive to work!

all those poor girls that have to wear hose TO CLASS!
