I’ve just been admitted through ED. I just want to know how much wiggle room when navigating through my classes. On their site, Cal Poly says:
“You must complete all coursework designated on your application, including those listed as “in progress” or “planned,” with a grade of “C” (or better) no later than the previous Spring Term for admission for the Fall Term. You must maintain the academic standard that allowed for your admission.”
What does the last part mean? The part where we must maintain the academic standard that allowed for our admissions? To my understanding, I will not get rescinded if I get a C or better in all my classes correct? So even if I get a C in all my classes, which I will not, I am still eligible for admission?
It also says 3.0 or higher. I’m not sure if this is unweighted or weighted.
I would not play it they way you are trying to spin it…getting as close to the edge and slacking as much as possible. Aiming for Cs mmay slide into Ds. We see reports of it every year and getting rescinded yes. They expect that you will get As mostly and Bs and if you get one C they are not going to pull the rug out. But I think they can and will if you turn in all C.
@BrownParent Thanks for the response. By the way I worded it I admit it did sound like I was aiming for Cs and hoping to slack off. What confuses me is not the part where it says you must have a C or higher in your classes but the part where it talks about the academic standard. My CSU gpa is 3.7 and this year I anticipate my weighted GPA to come out to 3.25. I am worried that this would be unacceptable and would result in a rescind. Could you provide some insight?
I think you are in a place where a bit of worry is a
ppropriate. All a and b you are ok. One c you are okay. Otherwise you are taking your chances.
Not aiming to slack off, but wouldn’t it matter if a C were in an AP or not? With more than one C in AP’s, is recission possible? Likely? It wouldn’t seem fair to rescind an offer to a student taking the harder classes (and getting some Cs) if they would not rescind an offer to a student taking easier classes (and getting some B’s).
@calpoppy exactly what I was thinking as I have three ap classes right now and 2 are classes where I have a B-.
I believe the 3.0 GPA is weighted since my niece last year had just under a 3.0 unweighted but a 3.3 weighted for Senior year and her admission was not rescinded.
What constitutes as not “maintaining the academic standard that allowed for our admissions”? Let’s say I get a 3.25 weighted (below 3.0 unweighted ) this semester, is that grounds for rescission?
I would also like to add that I got a csu gpa of 3.70 when I was admitted. Is this a significant enough drop for me to be rescinded?
@Gjjfcmkfb I wouldn’t gamble with this nor would I rely on CC responses as CP SLO is the only one who can provide the definitive answer and makes the ultimate decision. If you are concerned enough and your GPA is going to drop pretty significantly, better to ask this question of Admissions now than just hope things work out. Good luck!
