I was going to apply to UIUC as an undecided major because I really have no idea what I want to major in. But, I am not sure what the difference between LAS and DGS is. LAS has higher ACT score range and higher gpa average.

At most schools GS is remedial, for students who have not done so well in HS or on tests but who show promise. LA is an approach to college study with an emphasis on exposure to many different academic areas, and (ideally) a timeless consideration of human questions and ideas.

So it’s better to get in as LAS? Well I have 3 Ds in my transcript and 2000 SAT score. I am trying to get into one of the big 10 State colleges like uiuc, ws, iu. If I get into UIUC as DGS, would I have disadvantage later of changing my major?

If you are getting D’s in HS maybe you are not ready/right for college? What do your teachers and counselors say?

A GS program may be a good place to start to get your skills up to snuff. Check with your potential schools to see if you can transfer into other university divisions later.

I really slacked off. I know I have potential to get straight A in my senior year with 3 ap classes. I got 2000 in sat and pretty good ec, including being an eagle scout. I really want to go to UIUC or IU or WS. Should I apply as DGS?
