What is Florida State like?

Hi. I'm from Maryland and really know nothing about Florida State but I am interested in the school. I've heard great things about the school and a alot of people from my school apply there so I'm considering it.

HOWEVER, i know nothing about the school!
what are the academics like? is the campus nice? what is the STUDENT BODY like!! (preppy rich kids/cliquey/diverse/friendly etc)
is it dominated by greek life? and just about anything else!

if you have any info on the school please let me know! :)
thank you!

You should post on the FSU sub forum. A lot more info there.

FSU has a beautiful campus, lots of southern charm with big oak trees and Spanish moss. Even though it is also the state capital, Tallahassee is home to FSU, FAMU and TCC with a combined total of about 70,000 students so it is very much a college town with a college town atmosphere. The strength of the academics depends on your major really. Like any big state school you will have stronger students and weaker ones. The average incoming HS GPA was last year was 4.1 and the avg ACT is 28 and the SAT is 1860. (Honors program was 4.4 GPA, 31 ACT and 2070 SAT)

Greek life is big, but with 40,000 students you will find many that are not into Greek life. Football is big obviously, but again, there is enough variety that you can always find other activities. (but even if you don’t like actual football, going to the games is a lot of fun!) Most of Florida’s population is in the central (Orlando, Tampa) and south (Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, West Palm) so that’s where most of the students will come from.

As far as diversity, I don’t know how it ranks but I have seen white, black, Hispanic, Asian, middle eastern students on campus. FSU prides itself on its study abroad program and even has a program wherein OOS students get instate tution for their last three years if they spend their first year abroad at one of their study centers. (instate tuition is $6500/year, OOS is $21,500/year so that is significant)
