What is most important at Brown and other ivies?

Is it GPA?: 3.92 at an EXTREMELY competitive school with max aps and honors courses
Rank is 4 of 206

My extracurriculars?: head of peer counseling group, coach/play soccer, coach science Olympiad, take caricature classes at a local art college, heavily committed to research, with a revoluionary immunology project in which i took the first steps in optimizing a novel vaccine component for use in the third world. I submitted my project to intel, and I hold a research position doing my novel work at a local instuite, etc.

Recs?: absolutely stellar one about my academic attitudes and another that shows who i am socially. In addition, I got a supplemental one from my research mentor.

Essays?: writing is my strength and my common app essay shows who I am as a middle eastern American in a very passionate and creative way. The others focus on academics and my research and I will send my research abstract as supplementary material. The passion for research is consistent throughout my application.

BASICALLY, what I want to know is if my sat scores are a reason to be worried. I have a 2230

Every Ivy states quite prominently what is the prime criteria in evaluation. It’s not that difficult to discover

You have to understand that Brown (and other schools) approach admissions decisions differently than you do. They don’t look at each individual and say – he’s got the grades, the ECs, the SATs, he’s in. They are building a class. They want students from every state and multiple foreign countries, they want scientists and poets, football players and oboists, Classic majors and engineers, legacies and first-generation students, Asians and Latinas and Caucasians.

So figure out what you have and convince them that they want it (Middle Eastern American? Interesting research?) and sell it. The grades, ECs and SATs just get them to open the door. The door is open with your stats, you have to figure out what will cause them to invite you in.

Very insightful fire and rain. You are definitely right.
