What is my chance of getting into philips exeter as an international student

I am not from the us and live abroad will it be easier for me to get in as they need to fill a certain number of international students or will it be harder.

The answer will depend in part on what country you are coming from.

Harder. Much, much harder.

And they don’t need to fill a certain amount of spots with international applicants

UAE
Dubai

How come?

I don’t know what “How come” refers to

Because they aren’t obliged to meet a quota of international applicants – meaning if they don’t want anyone that year, they can theoretically not take anyone.

Let’s say a school would like to have about 25% of its class be international. They don’t want all of those students to be from the same country. Certain schools are pretty popular in certain countries, and for applicants from those countries, the school could be extremely selective.

So the answer depends on how many students from UAE apply.

So my chances are the same as someone applying from the us.

No.

Thanks

Do I have to take the ssat.

Well I’m pretty sure Exeter is TO but for intl students I’m pretty sure you’ll have a higher chance with the SSAT and TOEFL.

I would say, to be completely honest, your chances are worse.

You’re in a more competitive pool, and only 8% of Exeter is International Students.

Let’s put it this way. For any competitive school, you’re always going to have a better chance if you’re in the country it is in. It can be Harvard, UCLA, Deerfield, or Exeter. Doesn’t matter.

To add onto this, a lot of the international students are top students in their country. For example top 1% in their country for math or something along with other ECs.

I believe the applicant would have a below-average chance, everything else equal, unless he comes from an uberwealthy family that is a development opportunity for the school, in which case he would have an above-average chance.

Will me going to their summer camp increase my chances if I could get like a recommendation letter from a teacher there.

Not really, if you can get a recommendation letter sure, but I don’t think most teachers will give LOR randomly.

What level of extra curriculars do I need assuming I performed well on the ssat.
I am ABRSM Grade 8 Piano and Am in the Sailing race squad for a sailing club is that enough.

I’m not sure about the ABRSM level since a lot of kids have reached ABRSM level for piano or some other instrument, and for sailing I’m not quite sure about the sport so i don’t know.

I think for international students you need to be like a top applicant from that country, for example top 1% in math or something for Math Olympiad in you country. Like every international student i know in Exeter and some other schools were top students in their country.
