What is "Self-Study"? and also...

Hello i'm new here :D

I see many who have taken multiple AP exams but only a couple or so AP classes for them. How do you do this? My HS only offer APUSH, AP Eng., AP Cal. AB and BC, and AP Gov't.

Also.

I have APUSH and I am ordering AMSCO[from their site] and a REA book from amazon to help me prepare for the exams, which REA book should i get:
AP U.S. History Crash Course (REA) OR AP United States History (REA)

Thanks for the upcoming replies.

Self-study is literally just that. You grab a prep book or textbook and study the material yourself. I believe you can make arrangements through your high school to take the exams themselves.

yup, it means you self-study it. Its way better than taking the class because you can pace yourself to your level. Make sure to use the resources found on the web as well.

self-study is something pointless. Many cc-ers have wrong ideas about it.

ideally you study with a class. but what if none is offered and you want to get more AP credits? I don’t think it’s pointless.

It’s absolutely not pointless.

However, self-studying APs when your school offers 10 or more could be time better spent. If you go to a school like mine where they only offer 3-4 APs, self-studying demonstrates that you are taking initiative of your own education.

Yes, take initiative of your own education! I like that. hat off MrWheezy.
I’m planning to do at least a couple self studies. will check my school’s AP list first.

I agree. Self-study is not pointless. It shows initiative in your education. Moreover, for me, I choose to self-study because I am highly curious and interested in the subject.
