I have been thinking about college lately and this sparked some questions. I’m a sophomore in highschool right now and my freshman grades weren’t good. I failed math, one semester of English and I had a D in biology. I think I had other D’s as well. This year I had no failing grades last quarter but I did have a D and C’s, but lets say that starting this sophomore year I get straight A’s through out all next three years in highschool. What would my whole gpa be for college consideration, and what would be the highest college I could have a chance at?
If you begin taking rigorous courses and show an extreme upwards trend, that might look very good to colleges. Also, what caused the mediocre grades? If you have a compelling reason, even that can be overlooked
Try to pull your GPA up to at least a 3.0 by the end of your Junior year. At least. You can figure out the grades you need pretty easily (no C/D/Fs, Bs and As). You can overcome a bad Freshman year by showing an "upward trend"in your GPA and by getting good results on the SAT or ACT. You might not get into one of the Ivies, but thankfully there are literally hundreds of great schools out there.
thanks guys
