With all these rankings and lists... I'm really confused!!! How do I know that the college I choose is a good one?

I'd like your opinions, (annoying, I know, haha)
rank theses choices...what are the better/ best college(s),(or the worst!?)

Goucher (Maryland)
DePaul (Il)
Flagler (Fl)
Fordham (NY)
Emerson (Boston)

(I think I'll probably be majoring in communications/journalism, but I'm not even sure so you can judge w/o that or whatever)

i'm interested in Journalism, also. And also looking at DePaul and Emerson.

I would say DePaul, of course, just cause Chicago is the best place on earth.
They have a really good comm. program>>>http://communication.depaul.edu/deg.../newcurriculum/

Emerson is probably a better school overall... my cousin went there, for journalism, and writes for National Geographic. And she said she loved it there.

But still... Chicago...best city... ^-^

Sorry for lack of information about other colleges on your list.

From someone who's been just as confused and frustrated as you are right now ... this is just my opinion. It is certainly NOT the end all and be all, by any stretch. :-)

To me, which is the "best" college is kind of a personal decision that you will have to make. I know it's hard. But there are resources that can help ... like books and magazines that rank colleges based on standardized criteria, or just give you the schools' stats and basic info. Some books discuss schools from a financial perspective, some interview current students to see what they think of their school (positive or negative).

But still, a lot may boil down to exactly what YOU are looking for in a college. Is getting into Harvard Law School after graduation a big priority for you? Are you just looking for a school that is strong in exactly what YOU want to study (regardless of whether it's students scored the highest on their SATs)? Do you like big cities or rural environments? Liberal or conservative? Liberal arts education or pre-professional training? Only you (probably with some help from those that know you best) can answer those questions.

I wish you the best of luck in all this! Thankfully I'm almost through with my college search, but I know where you are coming from. You will find the right school. You just need narrow the field a bit.

P.S. Check out the CollegeBoard.com's "CollegeMatchMaker." It helped me a lot. You can plug in different criteria for a school, like size, location, majors, etc, etc, and it will pull up a list of schools that match. It's a okay place to start, at least, once you have some idea of what you may be looking for in a college. And you can change your mind and try the MatchMaker again and again with different criteria.

thanks for the info everyone :)... I have been doing some research

Athough emerson seems like a completely fabulous school, I don't think its right for me. I definitely want to explore more that just journalism and communications throught my college career, and it seems like that is pretty much what they offer.
And although I most certainly agree that chicago is AWESOME... I'm having second thoughts about DePaul because of the cold weather hahaah.

I've visited all the campuses except for Flagler... which I REALLY want to go see, but I can't afford it/ don't have time right now

Goucher and Flagler are probably my top choices as of today. I love the study abroad/international aspect of Goucher... and the idea of a warm, sunny, beautiful campus (Flagler) is REALLY appealing to me right now as its under 30 degrees here in New England!! Flagler also seems like it has great progams for me (both communications and intenational studies, although no languages other than spanish :( ) Fordham is up there on my list too. Guess I'll just have to cross my fingers and hope to get into flagler and fordham, since I'm already into Goucher.

It sounds like you know what you're doing. I wish you the best of luck! :-)

Have you looked at American University in Washington DC? My D is in her sophmore year and loves it. She's doing a double maj. journal. and pol.sc. The city is great. Students are serious. She applied and was accepted at BU,emerson, syracuse, nyu, tulane, penn state, and GW. She was offered financial packages at all the schools but got a full tuition scholarship at American so decided to go there although it was not her first choice. She says it seems that they give alot of Scholarship money. She is going to American U in Cairo for her study aboard for 2 semesters next year. So many opportunities have opened up to her and she's really happy. The dorms are really nice and it's a beautiful clean campus in a really prestigious part of Washington. They have a great communications school and are very big on politics and foreign affairs. Check it out.

I agree, I was HIGHLY considering American U because I liked it overall. However, I'm a Cali girl, so the move was a little bit too much for me. I want to major in Communications or something of the like, and I"m also into Journalism, so American is definitely a great option!

Best of luck, check it out!

thanks morgan1300 and krissitina, i'll deff take a look
