It seems as though there are quite a few options for freshman housing. Anyone which dorms are best? Only co-ed. Thanks

If you want co-ed, you aren’t allowed to choose which dorm you live in anyway. You’ll be assigned to one based on your housing preferences. But some general thoughts…Donlon is the most social (of course, your social life will be what you make of it), Dickson has the most singles, and Court-Kay-Bauer/Mews are the newest.

Are there single-sex floors? Or is there just Balch?
Also, if I request a quad or a triple, which dorm would I most likely get placed in?

As far as I’m aware, there are no single-sex floors outside of Balch (although, of course, that’s women-only). If you request a triple, it would be fair to say that you’d be more likely to get placed in Dickson because that’s where most of the triples are. Jameson and High Rise 5 (and Balch) also have triples, though. I don’t know where any quads are, although I do know of one quintuple, again in Dickson.

One of my friends is in a quad in Donlon. It’s comprised of three rooms: two doubles on each side, joined by a central “study” room with all of their desks. Don’t know if that’s how all of the quads on North are structured, or if there are quads in any of the other dorms…

yes most of the quads are in the townhouse

though the triples exist in dickson, and the 2 high rises…

low rises have nicer restrooms than the high rises (last i checked) as does risley. dickson’s are pretty ancient too.

donlon is loudest and most social because of its build.

Do all freshman live in the north part of campus, or do some live in the west part?

All freshmen will live on North Campus either in dorms, townhouses, or program houses.

oh okay thanks!

I’m going to be a freshman this fall and I’m also wondering about housing. I stayed at Balch for CUSC and I thought it was okay. I’m deciding on whether or not to put “women only” and “single” as my housing preference… Comparatively speaking, does Balch have better accommodations / lounges / sinks / showers / whatever than the other residence halls (Mews, Court, Dickson, etc.)?

I want to be placed in a newer residence hall (newer than 1920 >3>), but I don’t know if I want to take the chance when I already know the conditions at Balch.

Thanks any help is appreciated :)

balch is a notoriously unsocial dorm. I suggest you base your balch/no balch choiceon whether or not you vision of friday night comprises you watching a movie and baking brownies, or going out to parties being loud and staying up late.

there have been all male floors in CKB. I don’t know if they still exist.

Yeah, 4th floor Court is all male, and known traditionally as “Balls Hall.” But that is the only other single-sex floor I know of other than Balch.

And once again to reiterate, if you are looking for a regular co-ed dorm, YOU HAVE NO SAY. So stop freaking out about it and speculating.

So if I request a quad, do you think I will get placed in the Townhouses?

I want to be in a social/cool dorm! Please help!! What’s the best?? Also, which meal plan did you do??!?!?
