What is the boringest book you've ever had the "privilege" of reading?

BEOWULF. oh my god. that is most likely the worst poem ever written, they retell most of the story during a speech, but they dont leave out any details, so you essentially read the same thing twice. i actually wanted to die after reading that.

call it courage - the worst book, we all had to read it in 6th grade

The Old Man and the Sea.
The Awakening

Wuthering Heights.
Old-time romances suck. Actually, most romance books in general suck, haha.

Some Mark Twain book. It takes me like half an hour to decipher one paragraph of slave's dialogue.

Anna Kerina is THE longest and MOST boring book EVER!!!

I pretty much hate most American Lit especially Puritan diaries and transcendental writing (great stuff, but just sooo drawn out and hard to get through if you're not in the mood).

A World Lit Only by Fire was an amazing book! Well, I'll qualify that. The first two sections about the middle ages and the Catholic Church were awesome! The third section about Magellan was really boring :/ I dunno, I thought it was a hell of a lot better than reading Zinn for APUSH.

Ohh, for APUSH we had to read founding brothers, which was a very interesting book, but I found the first chapter about Burr killing Hamilton to be very confusing and hard to get through. I dunno if it was b/c I was reading it in ain airport or if the writing sucked.

I dunno, I've liked a lot of books I've read in hindsight, but I wasn't amazed or interested as I read them. I guess I need more time to mull over it.

Wow, lots of hate for all of my favourite books... Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, Catch 22, Of Mice and Men, Great Gatsby etc.

I thought Catcher in the Rye was annoying. The parts of The Jungle describing the working conditions and food contamination are funny but the rest is pretty worthless.

The Catcher in the Rye. It killed me. It really did.

...House on Mango Street. I have no idea why that was in our high school curriculum.

If you get to book III of Pride and Prejudice, it really picks up.

If you don't read "the custom house", The Scarlet Letter is good, too.

Anna Karenina is ADORABLE. Levin+Kitty= <3

Catcher in the Rye was good too. I don't know how you could call it boring when it only takes a few hours to read.

I actually like most of these books, heh. I'm going to stop now.

Um, but Madame Bovary is just awful. I think that's my worst book ever.

I've never read a book in my life.

I agree with Lima on the Customs House bit. Without that, the books fairly tolerable, even compelling to read. With the intro, it's terrible.
And StevenWheatland, why do I doubt that...

I'm really surprised how many people say reading the Scarlet Letter was torture. Its probably one of my favorite books; maybe just because I like all that symbolism.

As for the most boring, I'd say Uncle Tom's Cabin and anything by Dickens. Freshmen year summer reading required 2 books by Dickens (Great Expectations and A Tale of Two Cities) along with a few others. THAT was torture.

Scarlet letter. omfg.

Huck Finn as well. It's not really boring..but it literally made me l tired.

I have liked every book I've ever had to read for English except Great Expectations. It made me want to die. I like a lot of the books on here, though - how can you dis Joyce and Shakespeare?

The Awakening was the worst book I've ever read, i felt like jumping up and playing la cucharacha on the trumpet when she (spoiler).

Madame Bovary is really boring, but its a good book and I felt good after I finished. Scarlet Letter was so-so, I read it on my own and it was kinda nice to not do it with a traditional style of themes and imagery and symbolism.

Now, Brave New World is a bore, stay away. Old Man and the Sea is a bore, which surprised me, because I 'heart' TSAR and For Whom.

War and Peace > AK, in my opinion, both are readable, but you really need someone who knows what they are talking about to discuss it with you periodically. I had a really great english teacher who also knew all of the history and culture, so everything fitted nicely.

Dont diss Catch22, best satire since Candide, best war novel tied with SH-5.

Wuthering Heights, I agree, is just awful and boring.

Scarlet Letter was the worst.
But, I really did think Brave New World was good, contrary to some others' opinions.

Maybe.. A Tale of Two Cities?
