What the hell, Heart of Darkness is one of the best books ever written. I would love to have to read that in school.

I agree with Of Mice and Men. There are only like three themes in the book and they are for 5 year olds, the book should have been read in 8th grade but it was read in 11th grade in my school.

Catcher in the Rye, Les Miserables and Walden are also some other favorites.

Come on, at the very least Catcher has a prostitute and the word "****" in it, right?

Heart of Darkness? the first and only 55 pages or the interpretation of the author's words? If the first few pages, then it was interesting. The rest was garbage.
I'm very happy that I haven't had the displeasure of reading Pride and Prejudice. In fact, I was dropping by a Starbucks today when I saw a girl reading it (she was resting on a ginormous Organic Chemistry textbook): she was bobbing her head repeatedly.

Ick! Next time, stop by and say hi. It might be yours truly.

My least favorites are from freshman year, primarily becasue I also hated the teacher; Great Expectations, The Little Prince (We shouldn't even have been reading it. I read it one night and aced the test a month later.), and The Oddessy.

Isn't a separate peace a gay novel? The whole time I thought they were gay. Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso are the worst. We had to read those for Eng and they bored me to tears.

Why the hell would you read The Little Prince in high school in an English class? The themes aren't THAT advanced.... a fifth grader could tackle it. I read it as a kid and then again in high school French, LOVE that book.

I have no idea why we had to read The Little Prince. The themes were simple, although I remember getting pretty mad when my teacher was trying to tell us the author was telling us we need to take care of our envioment and we need to be more aware and cautious when it comes to Global Warming. My goodness, the book was ublished in 1943. I don't believe Global Warming was an issue during WWII.

I totally thought that, too! I had to read it for a project freshman year but I didn't really read it. I read the beginning and thought it would be about them developing a romantic relationship hahaha. I even wrote my final paper that counted for a semester grade about the homosexuality in ASP using my awesome skimming skills and random comments on the internet. My teacher gave me a 95 for the "unique perspective." But I swear it's so blatant! It's surprising no one's ever written about the homosexuality for my teacher's assignment.

Oedipus Rex
but i liked 2 kill a mockingbird ( i thought i wouldn't at first though)
House on Mango Street- I absolutely HATE that book. I thinks its written like a 10 year old and so RANDOM but some teachers will try 2 say that crap is actually well written and good.
Scarlet Letter( i only read the first couple of pages and my dad was making me read it but i'll wait until junior year or whenever its required).. so boring
