What is your college GPA?

I am currently a sophomore at the University of Texas-El Paso (UTEP) and I was wondering what everyone's GPA was. I had a 91 average in high school, but I have struggled a little. My GPA is 2.8, but people tell me that my GPA is good. Should I panic? I have heard that a 2.5 GPA is average. Is this true? Thanks for your time.

My GPA... lol. Because I had 2 disaster years in college (including having 2 semesters of a GPA below 1.5), my overall GPA is about 2.4. Major GPA (Comp Sci) is 3.1-ish.

Weren't you on probabtion for a 1.5 GPA? What went wrong in those two years? That's good that you kept you Major GPA in the B range.

I was in a major that really didn't suit me, plus there were some personal circumstances going on in my sophomore year.
I was on probation last year - if I'd failed anything I was out, but I pulled a decent major GPA and got a good grade in the 2 non-major classes I took so it's not so bad... I'm a 5th year senior now though who'll be coming back for a 6th year.

A 2.8 GPA is not good and it depends on what school you go to for the average GPA. At UTEP a 2.5 sounds about right for the average.

I guess your gpa and it's "goodness" depends on what you want to do after college. If this is your terminal degree, a 2.8 is just fine, but if you want to go on to grad school or anything else academic, you should really try to pull it up. Right now I have a 3.91 (Econ major), but I'm pre-law so gpa is insanely important for me.

To the person who said 2.5 is an avergae at UTEP. Why did you say 2.8 is not a good GPA, but say 2.5 is the average at UTEP? What are you trying to imply?

At my school the average Senior graduating GPA is 2.8 and the average freshman GPA is 2.4...

2.9, trying to get it above 3.0

I'm a sophomore

Right now I'm at a 2.7 (only based off of freshmen midterms, and with chem, which I'm planning to withdraw from). Hopefully a lot will change by the time I graduate.

I've got a 3.8 based off of my freshman midterms.

Let's just say I'm beginning to realize how wonderful pass/fail is.

The grade report online at my school made an obvious mistake, and I don't know if there are more mistakes so I don't know what my gpa is. :(

Oh, come on. 2.8 is perfectly fine. You have a B- average. Nothing to be ashamed about. If you want to go to grad school, you might want to get above a 3.0. Beyond that, you're doing perfectly fine.

I've got a 3.7 after a year of college.

graduated with a 3.49, luckily once you're in med school they dont' calculate a GPA

BTW I got a 3.17 as my midterm grade report. Not too shabby. Dean's list at least :)

A 2.8 is a B- average. I thought that was a C plus average?

The scale at my school is:
4.0-A
3.7-A-
3.3-B+
3.0-B
2.7-B-
2.3-C+
2.0-C
1.7-C-
and so on...

I'm trying to imply that being average/around average is not good. I never said a 2.8 or even a 2.5 is bad, i just said it wasn't good. I guess my standards are just set above yours?

Maybe UTEP is a tough school to pull good grades at. Maybe the professors practice grade deflation... now there's a concept, or possibility none the less.

I have a 3.83 GPA and am a senior. If I can push it above a 3.85, I can graduate with Summa Cum Laude recognition. :) However, that's not something I'm overly concerned about. I want to learn the subject matter more than impress somebody with grades, which I've found the two don't always coincide (read: I learn more by making mistakes than by getting it right every time).
