As the name suggests, if you plan to attend NU, what housing option are you looking at??(dorms, halls, off-campus...)

i would definitely stay at a dorm during freshman yr. Even if its a single, it's better than off-campus housing in terms of getting to meet people.

As for the actual on campus residencies...i have no idea which one i prefer right now, although Ayers CCI has the largest rooms i believe.

negative- either Willard, Allison, or Chapin have the biggest rooms (slight edge to Chapin, followed by Allison, though Willard has one or two rooms which are physically the largest on campus).

From what i've experienced, chapin has the biggest rooms i've seen. Slivka has some really big ones as well. Half the rooms are single FWIW (floor plans @ http://www.slivka.org/Hall/Plans/)

Thanks guys...any other aspects (current NU students) that you would want us to consider before making the final decision??

Look at one of the BAJILLION housing threads on here- some are really good. You should also decide if you want a dorm or residential college (although the differences/benefits of one or the other are kind of exaggerated sometimes)- there are many threads on this as well.

yeah I know that slivka has a bad rep for being antisocial...but I love the suite set up (pun intended). Do the great facilities make up for the maybe not so great social aspects? Also are the suites coed or single sex?

Suites are single sex.

Also, the "antisocial" rep, it really depends on what you make of it. Slivka is a residential college, and probably one of the closest knit ones. You will know everyone in the dorm if you even try to meet people. From the people in other RC's i've talked to, Slivka has the most actual events, many other dorms have some speakers or philanthropies and munchies, but we do have some trips to Chicago, or other interesting things.

I think people think Slivka is antisocial because Slivka people hang out with Slivka people. There's a reason why we have a lot of seniors living in Slivka-everyone is integrated into the Slivka society. However, if you want to make friends outside the RC, that's fine too, people won't shun you for being involved with non-Slivka students.

Also, for those curious (and probably contributing to slivka's antisocial nature) There aren't typically any big parties within Slivka, though because it's divided into suites and then rooms, it's easy to drink if you want.

To add to the anti-party thing, I have HEARD that Slivka is notorious for not only not having parties, but for having CAs that are super hard on enforcing drinking/party rules, and that Slivkans are often the ones who call the university police to report nearby frat parties.

I think some of those stereotypes result from having the area coordinator live in Slivka--She's the CA's boss, full time housing staff, lives on the first floor. So, since she's close to all the frats, she's able to call UP on the frats. Most Slivka residents don't care enough to call. In terms of CAs, it really depends on the person. CA's just kind of live in, and you don't see most of them around. The CA on duty would typically be the one who's hard on partying, and they're not always residents (since the north campus res colleges CA's work all the north res colleges). I would think that this is really dependent on the CA in question. (For instance, last year, we had a CA who got really drunk and threw up in the main lobby. Oddly, he didn't get fired)

Careful spreading rumors about things you don't know the full story to.

There was a lot going on with that particular incident, and there WERE repercussions (even though they may not have been glaringly obvious).

It should be noted, the only fully mixed gender dorm (including mixed gender suites)- is ISRC (West Fairchild)- that's International Studies Residential College for the acronymically impaired.

That's hardly a big deal though. Pretty much every RC and dorm is co-ed, and while sometimes it differs by hall (Willard for example has some "legs" of a floor that are only one sex, but then other legs have both sexes, and all the rooms are close to each other anyway), the sexes are largely integrated.

are their any suite setups that aren't notorious for being anti-social or big studiers?

orrr, are there any setups where a group of like 5 students share a bathroom instead of a huge communal one?

Actually, from what I saw of NMQ, it was integrated as well.
