What kind of music do you listen to?

Just curious. I'm kind of bored. Whats currently playing on your ipod right now? And what kinds of music do you like?

Right now? Yundi Li is banging out some Franz Liszt. Before the Liszt, there was some K-Pop by TVXQ/DBSK. After it will be some MC Solaar. I started out the evening listening to Death Cab for Cutie. Their mellow sound usually defines the general strain of my favorite songs. Sometimes I get a bit folksier with, for example, Brett Dennen or a bit more into pop with MAE or the like.
Then I have random faves that are really far from mellow, like Mindless Self Indulgence. I prefer more intense orchestral/“classical” music, overall, just for the drama. Schostakovitch is a beast for that very reason.

I listen to mostly mainstream crap.
You know the stuff they play on the radio 24/7! Lol
But I like a little bit of everything. Mostly Pop and R&B, but I also listen to Soul, Gospel, Country. Not too much into rap, though.

Mouse, what do you like?

^ Same here…I listen to mostly Mainstream stuff :stuck_out_tongue: I <3 Pop , R N B, Hip hop , a bit of alternative rock…oh and some somali & arabic music as well

I listen to pretty much everything but screamo or death metal, but I mostly have R&B, reggae, rap, alternative rock, and some Indian music (I tried looking up the name of the genre but apparently that’s what it’s called).

I don’t really listen to a lot of Lil Wayne/Young Money music since every other word seems to be f*** or s***, but a lot of songs I like (like “Down”) feature Wayne anyway. Oh and I guess I listen to a few pop songs, but I hate that Lady Gaga and new Brittney Spears stuff (she doesn’t even sing anymore…).

edit: I love me some Beyonc

strictly hip hop (common, nas, lupe, kanye, mos def, krs1, old heads), R&B, neo-soul, a tad bit of reggae, main stream pop artists (gaga … thats my girl =D, exc)

i really like drake … lil wayne, wacka flocka (lol), nicki minaj, southern artists and general mainstream hip hop are more for my entertainment than what i have on my ipod.

yeah . pretty much it .

Tool, Muse, Chevelle, RHCP, RATM, Soundgarden, Nirvana, Led Zepellin, Nine Inch Nails, Billy Talent, Stone Temple Pilots, Kid Cudi, MGMT, you get the idea

K’naan
He is under rated artist and his words always have a meaning.

Does any one listen his songs?
@eastafrobeauty

I’m a huge fan of Jack Johnson - he is almost all I listen to nowadays. I really like the mellow/relaxed style of his music, and I’m also big fan of acoustic music.

@Inconclusive - I heard about K’naan when I was playing the FIFA World Cup video game; His words really do have meaning.

@ Inconclusive:

haha I <3 Kn’aan I know this one Oromo guy that goes to my school that looks just like him haha.

And, LMAOOO. I HATE somali qaraami that’s something my dad and ayeeyo would listen to! actually even my ayeeyo has a better taste in somali music hahaha…my dad has at least 1000+ QARAAMI (no joke) songs stored on his computer/mp3 player hahahaha it’s quite lame…it’s so old fashioned and boring …

But I like the kind of somali music my hoyoo listens to in the car…even though I don’t know exactly what it’s called…i suppose it’s the more modern/pop kind…like the one they play @ a typical aroos/wedding haha. What’s funny is that last weekend while I was on my way to the U of M in minneapolis for african night and then I drove by this one somali guy in a minivan with his windows rolled down and blasting somali music…it was pretty funny LOL.

and are you somali??! SAY WALLAHI!!! loool

K’naan is good too. I heard one of his songs about a year ago but haven’t heard of him since.

@Harambee
Yeah his REMIX for FIFA is amazing.
Do you play soccer?

eastafrobeauty

I know old people usually listen qaraami. I some times listen with friends when they are chewing qaad/jaad, but most of the time we listen Drake, Lil, JZ, etc.

yup, I am Somali.

This is probably what your mom listens

Plus Qaraami is not boring when you are mirqaan/when you chew a lot of jaad/qaad, but of course it is for girls. Girls usually don’t chew jaad.

@hahalolk

Most of his songs are in YOU TUBE

Oh and I <33333 Drake haha he’s soo fine and his music’s cool too…I just started getting into Weezy (i know it’s a lil late)

I don’t know the specific names of the singers…I just have their songs stuck in my head and Im pretty sure I have mixed CDs laying around the house…:P

All I can come up w/ is stuff by Xasan Khadar, Maryam Mursal (right one?) she’s awesome, and this one other song that goes like, " ha di-en, haa dieen, haaa dieen" (sp?!) (don’t fall, don’t fall…) and there’s this one other song that my all time FAVORITE but I don’t remember the name…if i find it i’ll let you know

Apparently my 2 months being completely immersed inthe Somali Language/culture didn’t really help :confused: Inshallah one day I’ll take a year off and learn how to speak it properly…somali is very simple though…so it shouldn’t be too hard :wink: I always get **** for not speaking Somali well enough I always get from older ppl and my habiers/eedos/ whatevers " ska eeb blah blah blah" Then from my hoyoo: " No somali man is gonna marry u if u dont know how to speak it properly" rofl

At least I can speak beautifully broken Somali! (:

I was just kidding, you know enough, keep it up.
