I know that Amherst, MIT, Harvard, Yale, Princeton, and Curtis School are need-blind.
I thought these were all, but actually I could find out Minerva Schools and Soka University of America were also need-blind for international students.
Are there any more schools that are need-blind?
I really desire US education, but I have financial problems.
Thanks
You don’t need a place that is “need-blind”. You need a place that offers financial aid for international students. It is OK if that place is “need-aware”. If it wants you, and can offer the aid that you need, that is what matters.
Most US universities are need-blind for individual applicants… But very few offer good (or any) financial aid to international students.
Lots of different patterns. For example, Denison University is need-aware for international students but also commits to meeting the full demonstrated financial need for all students admitted.
How would a need blind for admissions acceptance school help you if it doesn’t meet financial need? Most schools in this country are need blind in admissions to US applicants but they don’t meet their financial need. It’s up to them to figure it out. There are loans that US citizens can often get , and IMO, too many folks that should not take them do.
The problem with accepting an international student with financial need is that such students cannot get a student visa to even get into the US unless they can show exactly how they are paying for the college and living expenses. International students’ parents not eligible for the student loans, and international students not eligible for most any US government aid. So it’s a total waste of an acceptance if international student had need unmet by the college.
These colleges tend to meet the demonstrated financial need of all accepted applicants, whether of domestic or international origin. You can research the schools individually for their specific policies: https://myintuition.org/.
Really, there are plenty of need blind for admissions schools. Look at the lists of unrankrd colleges, local, regional colleges that are not in top half of rankings. They’ll accept anyone meeting their standards of admissions which are often extremely generous. But they give little or no money other than federal and state mandated funds.
Some may have Merit scholarships for high stats applicants. Rarely a full ride or even most of the cost.
But, yes, finding a school need blind for admissions is not the difficult part. It’s finding schools that are need blind AND will meet most or all need (even as they, the schools define that need) are the rare birds
