I have a 3.0 GPA & 1990 on my SATs. I also did really well on subject tests (800 on Language test & 770 on Math 2). I do have good enough or more extra curricular activities.

Because my admission status is not notified yet, I am very anxious and impatient these days. I did hear that Riverside is not a referral school anymore, so I want to know what kind of students are rejected from UCR?

I’d like to know this as well.
From what I’ve researched about UCR and people’s chances, I’m sure you will make it.
Although your GPA is below average, you have a very nice SAT. Also, grades aren’t the only thing they look at when considering you for admission. As long as you did great Personal Statements and listed good ECs, you should get in.

I have a question about my senior years though:
I recently got my first D ever for IB Visual Arts in my 1st semester of Senior year, will this lower my chances of getting in?
My UC GPA is 3.52, and I already have the Art requirement met, so I don’t have to worry about my A-Gs. (took a Drawing course last year). My GPA for last semester (not counting the D…) is 3.2, which would have been 3.5 if the D counted (weighted as a C).

You must notify all UCs you applied to if you receive a D or F in an A-G course. Generally speaking, D/F means rescind to all UCs you applied to.

A recent LA Times article (dated in Jan 2011) quotes the director of UCR admissions as saying they are committed to finding a spot in 2011 for all uc eligible students who have applied to UCR. If you haven’t already, it is easy to calculate your eligibility. Just google UC eligibility calculator and follow directions, putting in the stats it asks for.

My guess is that you are in fact UC eligible. My son is and his stats are:

UC gpa 3.12
SAT 1850
Can’t remember his subject scores, but were just okay…not great.

Let’s just hope the director of admissions isn’t making promises they just can’t keep.

@JeSuis
I don’t think you read my post correctly.
I said I already met the A-G requirement for that area so it wouldn’t matter if I even took the course this year.
I just wanted to know if that would make an impact of my admissions.

Degenerated, it could impact your chances of admission. Students from previous years have been rejected and rescinded because of their previous slip ups (previous Ds or Fs in courses prior to applying, and Ds in the second semester of their senior year). But that is not always the case. Even if you get accepted, make sure you maintain your grades and do not get a D or else it may put you in a risky situation.

PS: Congratulations to all those prospective students who have been accepted by UCR. And do not get lax as many students in the past have, for this is only the beginning, and there will be much more work that lies ahead of you.

ucr rejects those type of people that think they can breeze into ucr without trying and how it’s a low status school. that can’t get you anywhere far.

I talked to one of the employees on the online chat thing, and he/she said it would say on myUCR account if you are denied. If you haven’t heard anything, they are still reviewing your application. I am also waiting for my status.

I’m pretty sure that UCR is a selective campus now. The rep that came to my school said that just being UC eligible doesn’t cut it anymore. I also remember seeing that article ([UC admission: UC Riverside’s popularity on the rise - latimes.com](UC Riverside grows in popularity)), which quotes UC Admission Director, not UCR. I wouldn’t be so sure about being admitted if you’re just barely eligible.

my pessimistic side - don’t be too confident. I had a 2080 and a 3.6 and bomb extra curriculars (good enough that it got me two private scholarships) and ucsc and ucr were the only UCs i got into and i applied to all of them except merced. im very happy with UCR, but just saying, its harder for you this year, and my credentials were higher than yours.

my optimistic side - i know people who had a lot lower sats and comparable gpas to your and they got in!

I had a 3.45/1800 and got rejected, but wait listed, so that’s top of the rejects, right? Any year up until this one, it would have been good enough.

^sorry to hear, see?, that though i think you should have gotten in
if you really want to go i think you should appeal

also most people that get rejected are those who think they can get in without doing anything…people need to learn that yes it might be a low tier UC but its still a UC so there are standards, maybe not has high as most but still there.

^I think you are wrong. I think it’s sometimes kids who just pray and hope that their hardest work will make them UC eligible. kids with strong EC’s, and strong SAT’s. The took subject tests in subjects they may not be strong in when most schools they aspire to don’t require them. The mya not have the GPA, but that doesn’t mean they are “not doing anything.”

djb360 - sorry, but i dont think 3.45/1800 is the top of the rejects. people with fantastic gpas and sats get rejected all the time. it could depend on your essay or your ECs/lack of as well. for example. i know a girl who had a 1700 sat and she got into berkeley. i had a 2080 and i didnt. we had comparable gpas and i had better ECs. she edited her essays five times more than i did. see how that works out? im sure there are quite a few technically more qualified students than you who also did not get into UCR.
