“NYU seems to give more based on merit than financial necessity”

In most cases, the financial need has to be there first. Rarely is money given out without need. So if you have really high stats, etc., they’ll meet closer to 100% of need with scholarships/grants; if you’re not super high but are still higher than average, maybe they’ll meet 80% - 90% of need, etc. So it’s still financial need-based, but with a merit component thrown in for the free money vs loans part.

hey can anyone please inform me about the financial aid given to international students at NYU, for undergraduate courses? I am planning to apply for journalism and music…and am doing my high school in India, studyin Alevels, which will finish in 2011, around november. I would also like to know what are the requirements for being able to receive financial aid.
Thank you

i got ~$22k in scholarships. one is just “CAS scholarship” and another is a scholarship for students in the sciences because i’m studying biology.
i think my only scholarship hooks were that my application was totally centered around my interest in biology (essay, classes, ECs, intended major, work experience) and my SATs were 2380, 760 bio and 790 literature
