What looks worse: a W or a C?

Hi all, I am a current sophomore looking to transfer to USC next year. I am doing well in all of my classes (have a cum GPA over 3.7) except for my introduction to electrical engineering class (I'm also an EE major). Currently it's looking like I'll get around a C for the semester. My final is next week, and I still have the opportunity to withdraw from the class, and retake the class again next semester. If I do withdraw, this would be the first and only W that I have. Since I am looking to transfer, what would USC look at as worse: a grade of a W, or a grade of a C+ / B- / B (depending on how well I do on the final)? Please give me your input immediately, because I do not have much time to make my decision.

Don't withdraw from the class if you are getting a C.

C is not a bad grade and it will even transfer to other universities.

I would withdraw, you can take it again next semester and get an A.

Under normal circumstances, I would say that you may as well take the one C, since it won't destroy your GPA, and it will still transfer for credit. But if it is for your intended major, a C can hurt in a very big way. That isn't to say a W without adequate justification is much better, but probably a slightly superior option.

Exactly-- it is part of your prep for your major so it won't look as good especially when you have many more qualified applicants.

Lastly, you'd probably want to get the most out of the course if it is part of your major, and frankly with a C in college, that means you really don't understand the material, IMO.

So I would, once again, withdraw, and excel next semester.

W is better a C

Never a W shows you gave up on a class....colleges dont care about excuses......

^^this kid doesnt know what he is talking about....no one looks at it as you gave up (by all means anything could of happen bad prof, illness, etc) take the W...a C is def a reflection of your ability... a W they can only wonder why...

A W never looks better than a C on a transcript ...I know because I had the same problem and I called admission reps. and they all said W's arent good they look bad on your part...Call and ask around if you still doubt,,,,,,
