What matters when you transfer?

I am a senoir in high school now, but I'm curious about the transfer process. My brother wanted to transfer, but he couldn't because of the courses he took. I just wanted to know what you need to include with your transfer application. Here a list off the top of my mind. Could someone tell me what matters from it and if there is anything I missed:

SAT Scores
High school grades
College grades
College courses (do I need to take some required courses in order to be eligible for transfer?)
Reccomendations (do I get them only from college professors or from my high school teachers as well?)

What do I need from high school?

SAT Scores/HS Grades: They matter, to an extent. When you take more college credits, they focus less on your SAT score and High School grades. Most colleges still will weight heavily into your HS grades and SAT scores if you're a sophomore transfer, and less if you're a Junior transfer.

College Grades: It'll be the main focus if you decide to transfer

College Courses: This is where it's slightly tricky. A lot of colleges don't require specific classes to transfer, HOWEVER; others do. For example, to get into Stern school of business at NYU, you need Calc I, Accounting I-II, A type of business writing and I believe Micromanagment. If you're planning on transferring, most people take the core classes that everyone basically takes their freshmen/sophomore year to get out of the way.

Basically, if you want to transfer, research the school you want to transfer into, and check if it has any requirements. If it does, take those classes, and make sure they're equal between the two Universities.

Recommendations: Likewise with college courses, some colleges require, some don't. Again, NYU requires 1 teacher recommendation, while a university like University of Michigan does not require, however you can send them. Sending a recommendation (assuming the teacher has nothing but good things to say about you) is always a good thing.

From high school, you'll just need them to send in your transcript, and if the school requires it, your SAT/ACT scores from either the school or the official company that deals with the scores.

On transfer transcripts, you can still put what you've done in high school down like math club, orchestra, drama, band, football, ect

Thank you! I really appreciate it; your post convered exactly what I needed to know!
