if i change my preference to santa lucia or north mountain with my roommate preference will we still be able to room together even though he is non-engineering??

yeah.. no big deal.
it isnt strictly engineering - just majority

ok cool. so they wont care putting an ag with an EE as long as we put put each other as preferences? so we should change #1 choice to north mountain and then #2 to santa lucia and then maybe #3 to sierra???

Oh wow, well I denied:
UCSD, UCI, UCSC, UCM, Stanislaus & SF State to go to CAL POLY!!
Hm, apparently whoever designed yosemite and sierra is a designer for the jails in california. just some added facts. hehe. not to change your choice though!!
I'm going for biomedical engineering & hope to get into the red bricks (santa lucia).

all right!
we'll be dorm-mates, hopefully?

mathfreak101.. go with your plan. that should pretty much be foolproof, assuming you've already paid up for housing.

I'll be in the redbricks (santa lucia) hopefully. Sent in my agreement on April 11, so it should be reserved. Go engineering!

I'm currently living in Santa Lucia...gosh i feel like I just moved in :(

imbibetheya: What dorms would you suggest for overal enjoyment? Does more room outweigh a more social aspect?...vice-versa? Would you have rather stayed in an other dorm? And......Is the living learning really beneficial or does nothing really even happen because of it?

I checked out sierra madre with biyatch... Bigger rooms for sure. However, the lighting there is dim and theres a funky smell or atleast at the tower we checked out. Yosemite was too far, I didn't even want to bother walking there so we didn't look at it. Sierra Madre is some nice dorms. The rooms are a tad smaller and theres more people per floor but it has a nice smell and seems cleaner. I think its a better study dorm.

that'd be cool. I HAVENT EVEN TURNED MY MONEY IN FOR HOUSING. oh gosh... well i'm sending it today and i REALLY want santa lucia. (as well as a good roomate hopefully!).

hey justsomeboi...so u and biyatchplease both picked santa lucia for dorms??

alright i think, finally, this is what im going to do. im going to change my preference choices to santa lucia, north mountain, and then sierra. but my main question is if its ok for an ag major to put those choices sense they have "LLP engineering majors" after it. or it doesnt matter cuz we have each other as choices

yeah.. we're roomies :D
to your ag q, it should be fine. it isnt strictly a particular major or college. just majority of the people who apply to go there are from that college. as long as his choices are in the same order as yours, you guys should be fine (you both paid up for housing right?)

yeah..we both paid up for housing on the first day. alright thanks for the advice..im gonna change it...

cool cool. then justsomeboi and myself will be seeing you in our dorms in september?! hahah
are you gonna go to WOW?

yeah im going to WOW. im so excited going to poly. i never thought i would be going there at the start of the year. even in EE. i was pretty set on math at ucla but i changed my mind haha...i might put north mountain halls first to see if i get lucky haha

"imbibetheya: What dorms would you suggest for overal enjoyment? Does more room outweigh a more social aspect?...vice-versa? Would you have rather stayed in an other dorm? And......Is the living learning really beneficial or does nothing really even happen because of it?"

It's really up to you. Some people want to be around residents from other major so it's more diverse. As for me, I picked Santa Lucia because I wanted automatic study buddies for my classes. Also, I didn't want to be placed with a random roommate who loves to party/get drunk.

I don't think size of the room affects social aspect. Santa Lucia's rooms are more square shaped while Sierra Madre's and Yosemite's are rectangular. I know 2 guys who are roommates in North Mountain (really big rooms) and they're good friends. I do like how each North Mountain room has a microfridge. At Santa Lucia we share a microwave with everyone on the floor.

No, I don't regret my decision with living in Santa Lucia. I really like how it's close to my classes. I've had classes in the business building for 2 quarters and it's a really long walk. I can't imagine what it's like coming from Yosemite. Also, it's relatively close to Campus Market, where I get groceries and food. The bags get kinda heavy so it's nice to live close. Some people complain about how everyone in the dorm is boring/a dork/etc. It's a pretty lame comment because you really have to get to know the people that live with you. First impressions are not always correct.

I like the Living/Learning community. It's kind of nice to have people who are taking the same classes as you right next door. I took a Physics class last quarter and it was kinda tough. I studied a lot with a friend down the hall. They also had programs specifically geared towards engineering throughout the year. For example, a bunch of engineering clubs came to get members. It's not all engineering though. We have other majors as well. A lot of business majors live in my dorm. We have ice cream socials throughout the year. There's also game nights and various programs. Oh, and this year they started the Living/Learning Program Honor Society. You have to get a 3.2 G.P.A all quarters to be a member. Well, I was a member Fall quarter...not anymore haha. It's a nice thing to add to your resume though. Anyways, I hope I answered your questions and good luck with housing!

One more thing I forgot to mention...

You might get a letter some time this year asking if you'd like to live in a triple rather than a double. It's cheaper, but I would advise against it. Maybe you won't get along with the other 2, but they both get along great. That sort of puts you in a 2 against 1 scenario. I think it's better to just have to deal with one another person rather than 2.

Awesome..I signed up for Sierra Madre a while back. thanks for the feedback though.
