Saw a bunch of other college threads with this topic, so I figured why not create one for Middlebury.

Years ago I turned down Bowdoin, Trinity (CT), Wake Forest, Holy Cross, and took myself off the WL at Duke.

Years ago I turned down Bowdoin, Trinity (CT), Wake Forest, Holy Cross, and took myself off the WL at Duke.

turned down Amherst, Trinity, Bucknell, CT College, Bowdoin, NYU, Tufts, GW, off the waitlist at WashU.

turned down Tufts, Colgate, SUNY Geneseo, Muhlenberg, Fairfield, and Lycoming and took myself off the waitlist at Brown. But none of that matters now cause I'm sooo excited about Midd!!

my daughter turned down Beloit, Case Western, College of Wooster, second year transfer at Cornell. Middlebury is by far the best fit.

I forgot; she didn't pursue waitlist at Carleton.

some people made some tough decisions

kenyon, grinnell, carlton, davidson

I also turned down Kenyon and Carleton, as well as Tufts and Bowdoin.

My daughter turned down Emory, Michigan, U of FL honors and Duke

turned down:
100,000 scholarship to Johns Hopkins
Tufts
SMFA, boston
Wesleyan
Kenyon
Oberlin
Reed
Hampshire
Bard

Berkeley, Bowdoin, Northwestern, Wake Forest

Turned down Columbia, University of Chicago, Johns Hopkins, Bucknell, Union, and took her name off the Princeton alternate list.

Although the topic doesn't come up in conversation much/at all, I've learned so far that some of my dormmates here turned down Amherst, Dartmouth, Williams and Stanford. I'll be the first to admit I was surprised by a few people's decisions.

One year ago,

-Washington University in St Louis
-Bowdoin
-Tufts
-NYU
-Trinity
-Bucknell
-Connecticut College
-Hamilton
-George Washington University

Columbia?
why?

wow...turned-down lists are scary
what is so special about middlebury that is worth turning down even duke and stanford?? (i know middlebury is a great school)

im guessing
that if someone wants to mahor in a language
thats a reason to turn down the ivy leagues and stanford, since middlebury has crazy good languages (thats what i hear)

they're very different types of schools, in very different environments. I don't think you should make a choice of school just based on ranking. Re: Duke and Stanford--these are large undergrad., with important big graduate schools. Middlebury is basically an undergrad school. at least during the school year. also, there's probably a much smaller teacher/pupil ratio at Middlebury. Lots of reasons for people to choose it over other schools; it really depends on what an individual wants.
Maybe the financial aid was better?
