What should be the etiquette for college inquiry emails to admissions offices? (overthinking...)

Most of the time when I receive an explanation from the admissions office to an inquiry I made, it needs no further questions from me (for example, they explain how I should submit supplementary materials and then I’m just like “okay, I understand, thank you so much for explaining that to me”).

Do you think it would be a bother to the AO to reply with just “Thank you so much for taking the time to respond to my email. I understand.” since they receive tons of emails every day? Or would it be rude to not reply or say thank you at all? (Right now I’m making sure to reply to them even with just a “thank you”.)

I know I’m probably overthinking this but it would be great to hear what you guys think!

I think your proposed reply would be fine. Acknowledging receipt and thanking them for the reply won’t take them more than 15 seconds to open, read, and delete, but the courtesy of a reply might stick with them.

I’m sure a lack of reply wouldn’t be a negative, but it misses the chance for a positive impression.
