What should I do? Desperate!

Hello. I'm currently a sophomore at St. John's University studying accounting. I absolutely despise this school and would like to transfer out as soon as possible. I've applied to the following

SUNY Binghamton - (reach)
SUNY Stonybook - (match/reach unsure)
SUNY Albany - (match)
SUNY Buffalo - (match)

GPA:
Fall 2010-2.67 (Admitted as a computer science major, decided it was not for me, so I ultimately had to withdraw. Also had a hard time adjusting to college)
Spring 2011-3.6 (Majority business courses I.E Accounting, Economics, Business Law)

With that said, I intend to study accounting or finance (definitely something related to business). Binghamton would be perfect for me (amazing environment, excellent academics, and feeder school to the Big 4), however, I'm not too sure if my grades are applicable for admission. If I do get accepted to Albany, Stonybrook, or Buffalo. I'm disputing whether or not I should attend, because if I do attend, I will most likely apply for a transfer again to Binghamton and Baruch* for Fall 2012 (both schools are perfect for me). However, I have been told Albany's accounting program is reputable as well (AACSB accredited). If I get in, should I stay?

*I cannot apply for Baruch for the spring 2012 semester because they require a Math course on your transcript before they can review your application. I have not taken a math course yet; I am taking one this semester.

Pursuing this further (assuming I get rejected from Binghamton), if I get accepted to Albany/Stony/Buffalo and attend for only one semester and attempt to transfer out. Will this look bad on my application? (keep in mind my two main choices are Bing and Baruch). I really do not wish to stay in St. John's another semester but people have advised me to stay another year to raise my GPA significantly (3.5+) which will open up more opportunities to different universities and then apply for Fall 2012. However, if I do stay I will be taking level 2 or 3 courses which will (more than likely) not transfer over. Thus I'm contemplating attending any of the Universities above that will accept me for Spring 2012 and applying to Binghamton and Baruch for Fall 2012.

For what its worth, I truly believe dorming enhances the "college experience" that is also a main reason why I do not wish to stay at St. John's as a commuter student.

I want to thank you in advance for any help and for reading my long post!

Anyone? bump

134 views and no input?

I’m sorry, i’m of no real help because I don’t know anything about SUNY or CUNY. But i’m curious, “*I cannot apply for Baruch for the spring 2012 semester because they require a Math course on your transcript before they can review your application. I have not taken a math course yet; I am taking one this semester”
Is this Baruch only? Because I’ve applied to 4 (including baruch) with the lack of any college level math courses.

Hey lissstenup, it’s no problem, at least someone noticed my thread haha.

I don’t want to be the bearer of bad news but

I took an 082 level math course?
Think this could apply?
… I’m stretching. & stressin’.

To my knowledge as long as its a college level course, you should be fine. Not 100% sure though.

thank you, good luck with your decision.

np lol and can anyone help?!

Anyone? :/

SUNY Binghamton is pretty lenient in terms of transfer admissions…With a GPA of 3.0 you should be able to get into the College of Arts and Sciences but the Business school might be a reach for you…I’m looking to transfer to Binghamton myself and from what I hear the business school is extremely selective…are you totally set on majoring in business?

Hi Foley, thank you for your reply.

That is very reassuring to hear. As long as I get into Binghamton I’d be content. Another question I have is if I don’t get into Bing and I get accepted into Albany should I attend Albany for 1 semester (spring 2012) if I’m going to apply for transfer for Baruch / Bing for Fall 2013

SOM at Binghamton is quite selective, although you’ll have no choice if you want to do accounting. If you want to do finance, going into financial economics in Harpur is always an option.

hey dwat0147. Remember me? lol.

I wish I saw your post a month where I would told you to still apply to Baruch for the Spring 2012 and here is why?

"Quote:
THE ADMISSION REVIEW PROCESS

As a transfer applicant, your admission application will be evaluated based on an individual review of your academic record that includes all attempted and completed courses and grades earned. "

See on the online application, it does ask you to list all your Fall courses including courses you completed. Sadly the deadline was September 15 but they would probably put you on a wait list. I apply for Hunter and I suppose to get a reply in October. First it was early than late October. You can go to cony.edu and make a Cuny portal account and see if they allow you to apply. If not since I know you really want Baruch, go for the Direct Admissions again for the Spring. It is usually held by end of November til the mid of January depending on the four year cony college. This time when you apply, you would have

at least a 2.0 GPA
$70 application fee
high school transcript/ SAT score
all college transcripts
more than 30 credits
a math and a english course (hope you have ENG 1 and 2 done)

Sadly the reason why they probably didn’t let you in for the fall because they probably want all students who apply for direct admissions to not have to take remedial classes( and trust me you do not want to take it. It gets full quick.) See at CUNY there is a CUNY skills test on math and english. if you pass, you take college level course, if not remedial course than college course. So it makes it easier on you. You can try for round two but you will never know. BTW, I hope you know Baruch has dorms. So half the tuition at St. Johns pays you tuition and Room & board at Baruch. And besides Manhattan beats Queens.
